Thread: Is Improved Crippling Shot Broken?

In my testing, it seems that Crippling Shot works fine. It slows down my target by a little bit for 20 seconds. I just got Improved Crippling Shot and when I fire it, the mark is slowed down by the same amount, but the debuf icon's hover text has some funky code in it and the timer still seems to be 20 seconds. The description of the Improved Crippling Shot says that it lasts longer.

What gives? Am I missing something?

Don't think anybody has compared regular vs. improved Crippling Shot.....it is what it is

That's not good enough. Why would they make an Improved version that says it lasts longer if it doesn't?

The question would be, how do the two specials perform against the very same target.

Or, does the snare duration get longer vs. lower level targets... never tested that, never read a report upon it. Anybody has any idea? (If level makes a difference, it might very well be that the advanced version has higher snare time, but is mitigated by the higher level targets...)

I'm fairly certain that cripple lasts the same amount of time on all targets. As for improved vs. regular, it may be the same amount of time. I have not actually tested it myself. If it isn't the same though, it's at least fairly similar times, I do know that. I'll try and test this out myself and verify it.

If they are the same duration, it was probably an oversight by the devs. There are a lot of bugs, It wouldn't surprise me if this was one.

I've never heard of any special's duration being affected by the CL of the target.

To add to this point specifically, I was hunting tortons on Rori to test this. I had Carbineer x3xx and I saw that Crippling Shot (from Carbineer x1xx) slowed mobs down for 20 seconds. When applied, I would hover my mouse over the Crippling Shot debuff icon and I would see the countdown start at 20 seconds.

Then I hit Carbineer x4xx and got Improved Crippling Shot. Excited to see what the "longer" duration was, I performed the same test. The hover text said something like [imp_crip_somethingorother] and the countdown timer was still only 20 seconds.

Sounds like regular Crippling Shot is broken.....and the question is Stopping Shot like this.....

As I just said in the other thread on Melee/Ranged Defense Issue, there are LOTS bigger fish to fry than this....
