Hey guys, i'm kinda stuck on looking at the base dps of a weapon, but i've been told that doesn't always give you accurate information, can anyone explain to me why or at least tell me about what an "average", "low", and "uber" carbine damages are? And please tell me about whats average SAC and those other stats too :-)

mabey im odd, but i look at minimum damage as being important.......because if a gun has a min damage of 1 and a max of 1000.....average is 500 damage......if your gun has a min of 500 and a max of 1000 then your average is 750....see what i mean?

don't always judge a carbine based on its DPS or max damage

Well, here is what I would look for in a DECENT Energy carbine (E11 or Elite). These are the stats I would look for PRE-SLICE:

Speed : 2.4 or less
Min Damage : 400 or better
Max Damage : 940 or better
SAC : 82 or better.

Kinetic carbines are a bit different, but usually they just have a lower min and max damage rating. As a Carbineer really the only Kinetic carbines worth considering are the Nyms and maybe the Blackscale hallsweeper. If you are a BH, the Czerka Dart carbine is an option, although it can never be crafted as nicely as a good Nyms.

These are what I would look for as a newer Carbineer. Once you really learn your template you can start looking for an nicer weapon. In that case, you can reference the stickies at the top of the forums for the craftable weapon caps for each of the available carbines. If there isnt complete information there on the carbine that you are considering, feel free to ask around in here.

If you are on a budget and are a BH, you can get a very respectable carbine from the Ryatt trail quests called the Proton Carbine. Requires an MBH cert, but it is a nice free carbine.

There are several good quest carbines out there, the trick is understanding damage and knowing what you are using it for. The quest carbines I like are: The Proton-energy +90 cold dmg (Ryatt Trail), The Spec-Ops Bola high energy dmg (Secrets of the Syren), and the Nym's Slug Thrower kinetic + 140-175 acid dmg (Nym's Theme Park). For PvE, a good energy carbine is tough to beat. That is unless you are doing a dungeon (the DWB or a ground Corvette) that has battle droids who are susceptible to elemental damage like acid and electricity.

Some people look at the slug-thrower as a low damage weapon but that's because they don't understand how damage works. True the slug-thrower has a damage cap of about 720, but if you get a good one, it will have a base dmg of about 360 then factor in 170 or so acid dmg. So now you are looking at a weapon with a damage range of 530-890, all kinetic and elemental, meaning a psg isn't gonna do squat against it. Slap a full speed slice on it and a 34% dmg pup on it and you have a very formidable weapon and an excellent jedi slayer.

Another route would be to get a SAC and dmg capped Czerka Dart carbine (or at least close to dmg and sac cap as you can afford)- this is an all kinetic weapon and in my opinion either it or the Nym's is a must in any carbineers inventory to complement a good energy weapon.

As far as energy weapons, for crafted go for the Elite (CL 54) or the E11-MarkII (Master Carbineer). If you don't plan on keeping master carbineer then don't get a MarkII as you won't be able to use it once you drop the master box. Both have excellent dmg ranges capping at over 1050 each, and both can be SAC capped at 73. If you don't have the money for one of these bad boys (anywhere from 1mil - 6mil depending on caps and mods like accuracy bonus, etc.) Then I would opt for the Proton if you are MBH, or the Spec-Ops Bola (CL 50-54 I don't remember which one exactly): both are excellent weapons with SACs of 85 and max dmg of about 950 (the proton is 850 +90 cold dmg).

Anyway, my only other advice is to experiment with several weapons and see which ones you like the most because what I like probably won't be what you ike for whatever reason. Also, make sure to carry at least 2 weapons in your inventory: an energy one and a kinetic one and learn which ones are more effective against various foes. Additionally get some good pups, I recommend carrying dmg/speed and the SAC pups. If its a long fight (more than 3-4 min) I go with the SAC pup, for short fights (like grinding, PvE, etc.) I like the dmg/speed pup. The baeuty of pups is that they can be switched out at will. One last bit of advice: if you get an uber weapon and can afford/already have an ADK - USE IT ON THE WEAPION! But, make damn sure the weapon is ADK worthy.

OK, sorry for the novel, but I've been spending mucho time learning about all of this as well and thought I could share some of my insights. Good luck and most importantly ... have a blast!

PvE: E-11/Elite- 420-1036(1063max)dmg, 73 SAC (then get it speed sliced). then, use dmg PuP

PvP: Nyms- 350-700(720max) 175 elemental, 82(or lower) SAC (again speed sliced). Dmg or SAC PuP

Loot: Spec Ops Carbine (awesome for PvP vs Melee, non-jedi) and Proton Carbine (excellent everyday carbine)

go back to the lab, get the grenade casing and disk and drop them on Nym. You can loot the items and come back with several of both and stock up.

Bear in mind that the good ones are rare and you will get a large number of 580 max damage ones.

LOL

I dont know the stats on your carbine. But I will say that yes, I have yet to see a Czerka that was better for my playstyle than a Nyms. I am sure its possible, but I havent seen one. Post your stats! I would love to see a good Czerka. They are cool looking weapons.

And I admit I should have clarified that it would take a great Nyms to beat a Czerka. Not just a good Nyms.

I guess I look at it this way, a Nyms is free....has great damage with that elemental, and can be used by a Carbineer. A Czerka can have better accuracy, better SAC, and a bit higher max damage. They are both nice, but its hard to go for the Czerka when you can get a Nyms for free.

I am not a Czerka hater, but its not a Carbineer weapon either.
