for something different i dropped pistoleer, which i only had trickshot in, and i switch it for carbineer. took mercenary because thats all the skill points i had. this was before they decided everyone would need ranged support tree. now instead of being able to be a mercenary, i can only be a novice. and worse more, im having trouble even seeing the point in being a novice carbineer, versus a novice pistoleer or rifleman.
my template is MBE/MCH and after building that on tc, my lvl was 56 with novice carbineer/pistoleer or rifleman. im able to use a host of carbines at that lvl but im also able to use a lot of rifles and pistols. more over, these weapons all seemVERY similar. that is to say a lvl 30 pistoldoes as muchdamage as a lvl 30carbine orrifle, even comparable speeds. maybe its their idea of balance but im not seeingmuch, if any, difference in my actual play using these supposely different weapon types. add to that every special i have access to at my lowly novice lvl, can be done with any weapon.
carbineer does get to wear battle armor which i thought would be the reason to keep it but i get battle armor being a ch. now i dont know what to do. maybe theres something im not seeing so could someone point out to me the pros/cons of being a novice carbineer as opposed to novice pistoleer/ rifleman in this new system?

Maybe I havent played enough of the new system but it seems like everyone has the same DPS and defenses dont seem to matter as much as CL so i really dont know what the differences are either. If I use the plasma flamethrower from master commandoit is the same as the E11 Mk 2 from master carbines.

The frogs are spitting out default weapons......hope to see some crafted ones on TC-EP3 soon to see what they will really look like.
And only having Novice in any Elite, Ranged or Melee, will be an extremely weak fighter.....CH isn't going to be that good, at least I don't think....
The testing on TC-EP3 has been very focused and beyond that the Devs just don't have it finished, so with 90% of the people "doing their own thing" we don't get a lot of accurate reports/testing......so we aren't to the point of seeing all the differentiation features for the profs and can't answer the pros/cons for choosing Carbineer over Pistoleer or Rifleman just yet

Well on what I've tested so far pistoleer feels like what carbineer is on live just with less damage, dizzy, stun, blind, and now intimidate your foe while your big hitters do the main dmg.

CH wont be that good?
Heh, maybe Im missing something here, but when you group with your pet, it's CL increases to the highest in the group, ie around 80 if your a MCH/Master Combat Profession. Now, what happens when you have a MCH with three BE triplets out that suddenly all become CL 80?

I think that got changed a patch or two ago so CH pets do not effect the group CL now.

They don't effect as in raise grp level but they are raised by the grp level. What was happening was lvl 125 ST-ST were being added to raise the grp to Level 125. that was taken away. However If I grp my lvl 10 mount he becomes a level 80. CH is busted right now though its exetremly hard to tell what value if any the proff will have post CU. I mean you can't even see the pets HAM bar. Anyway carry on.

I guess it comes down to what specials you want.... Novice carbines comes with leg shot that seems to do a good job of keeping a high DPS, what you need to do is get onto TC and play withfrogs and decide what is for you....
