I had a Ranger that was a few boxes into the pistoleer tree so I have something to compare it too. With my new character I wanted something different so I went carbine. I am only in the 3rd carbine box of marksman and I am shooting stuff with my sliced laser carbine for over 1000 damage, something I never did with pistol. I am killing yellow's with 2 shots! I expected it to be a bit gimped from all I heard about carbine, am I missing something??

It never gets any better! Lol. I remember that 3rd box and I thought the class rocked. The problem is, later on you will build up crap loads of XP to get a skill, only to find out the skill is broken. It's really disheartening.

Very true.

The novice and intermediate carbine skills work relatively well. However, that's it. Just about anything past intermediate (sans crippleshot) is either buggy or outright broken.

This is what your missing

Leg Shot 3 = LegShot 2, Broken

Crippling Shot. you can step away from your computer, grab lunch, come back, before your character fires another shot.

Charge 2= multiple target knock down, err broken, doesnt work

Wild Shot, hey it stuns, but then again so does Full auto single 2 most of the time, and it also blinds. Err useless.

The only way to really enjoy carbineer is to have doc buffs on. Then the horrible ham cost wont be a concerm. And you can spam the only two specials you'll ever use. Charge 1 and Full auto single 2 :/

Actually carbines are really good when you are killing some of the medium leveled mobs on the starter planets, you can mostly kill those in 1 or 2 shots. I remember I one-shotted white cons back before I got novice carbineer.

However, those mobs just won't do, unless you are happy getting 100 exp per kill building up towards the +4 mill exp you will need to get master carbineer. Once you go to one the advanced planets and see some blue/white cons you have your work cut out.

But I agree carbines are really good when going through the marksman skills

I don't see why you guys complain so much about HAM cost, I personally am new to the carbine (level 4 marksman train) and I don't loose 1/2 as much HAM as I did fighting melee. You're talking about melee classes where people think carbineers are lucky to only loose 100-200 HAM a shot. Hell I once lost 350 HAM off EVERY bar doing pole arm hit 2. Sure out HAM cost aint the best, but carbine is still a fine weapon.

YodaFoo don't listen to all these bitter people. Carbinier can be a great deal of fun and very effective pvp and pve. You are right to love those big money hits, its a wonderful sight to get a 2800 dmg hit on something. My friend who is fairly high in the pistoleer tree, wielding a very nice pistol, can NEVER get more xp than me on a kill (the only real gauge to how much dmg is being done by individuals) even though he's firing outrageously fast.

The biggest thing I would suggest to you to improve your shooting enjoyment is to save up money, keep buying the fastest laser carbines you can find, then have them sliced and pray for speed. I'm using a 40-285 dmg *2.5* spd laser carbine and it completely kicks! Speed is your best slice, but doesn't happen very often (I say that after having about 9 laser carbines sliced and only got 2 speed slices), but its the best thing for you because of the delays from specials. I honestly don't even notice them anymore.

Have fun, and don't listen to doom and gloom posts. Yeah, 1/2 our specials don't work right. The ones that do kick butt, and I can't wait until the broken ones are fixed because it will just fill out our class even better.
