Ok, I dabbled in Riflemen, dropped it because of range problems.

Picked up Pistoleer, went along with a lot of it, ENJOYED having an AoE attack (Fan Shot, Techniques IV), but now that's going away cuz Pistoleers whined cuz they can't handle AoE shots (and got themselves killed cuz they sucked at it). They're moving the only viable AoE attack to Master Pistoleer, or removing it entirely (remains to be seen).

So, I'm looking at Carbineer.

I've already looked into what I would need for AoE attacks(Level III in a couple of trees, right?). I'm wondering if I could get your opinions on how well they work for you, what are the difficulties associated with them, and what kinds of damage you've seen from using them.

Thanks in advance!

difficulties :

1) HAM costs

2) If you do AoE shots All of them aggro you

3) Some aren't working well

4) Sometimes you hit something you don't want to hit

Dmgs- With my laser depending on which I use

Fullautoarea2 - 800 to 1400 with a laser carbine - You don't hit all of them because you miss sometimes

Wildshot2 - 600 to 1000 same goes with missing.

Yesterday in Bestine I made the mistake of hitting the wrong hotkey vs a sea of red dots in pvp. One fullauto2 and I had about 10-12 rebels and their pets all firing at me/charging me.

AOE attacks can really be a baaaaaaad thing =)

AoE attacks can be very powerful asset if used respectfully.

Position is everything with AoE. If acting as fire support during some missions, set yourself up behind your groupmates & out of range of any lairs in your forward arc (64m is max range, i go 70m to be safe). One careless **edit** on a lair and your group could be quickly overrun. Either go prone or kneeling to improve accuracy.

Do NOT engage first with an AoE attack.Doing sowill bring everything in your forward cone down on you. Allow the CH's or other primarytanks to engage first, then support them with an ActionShot2 (or SuppresiveFire2) on the incoming swarm to buy the primary tanks some time. Followed by FullAutoAreas to apply stuns and blinds while softening up the swarm. Follow up with an ActionShot2 (or SuppresiveFire2) to suppress the angry horde again should your primary tanks and the rest of your group need to beat a hasty retreat.

AoE in PvP can be very very bad if your enemies aren't already engaging someone else. Try one sometime if you happenupon a mob of idle, unsuspecting players. I guarantee you will meet the AAGoD (Auto Attack Gerbil of Doom).

wildshot2 is the best damage aoe attack. it is lvl 4 mercenary tree. it also causes stun.

fullautoarea2 is pretty good too. it's level 3 assaulter tree. it mostly does blind, but sometimes dizzy.

broken aoe skills are legshot3 and chargeshot2. legshot3 targets the action bar. it does about the same damage as legshot2. it should be aoe according to the devs but isn't currently.) chargeshot2 is an area knockdown (wheeee)... if it is every fixed, i'm sure lots of people will be having fun with that skill....

actionshot2 is aoe posture down and bleed. it's somewhat bugged because it doesn't seem to always bleed.
