Thread: How much of advantage is ite AP2 of the laser?

I was just doing a little math getting ready to drop off a bunch of loot at my weaponsmith's for some new toys. I have enough goodies to have enough carbines made to ensure one or two 30+% damage slices.


The average base stats on lasers on my server is around 40-270, and DXR6s are around 110-180. Add imperial stocks and advanced scopes to both, and also add +20 max damage Nym caps to lasers (can't loot enough of same serial for DXR6s), they're now 65-320 lasers and 135-210 DXR6s.


Add a 30% slice and 16min/32max powerups and it's a 98-549 AP2 laser vs a 203-360 AP1 DXR6. You'll miss the 1 out of 5 really high damage rolls on the laser, but you don't have the 4 out of 5 really low damage rolls either. Add ranged mitigation for those other encounters and powered up they become a 98-278 laser vs a 203-265 DXR6. Plus even with the better range mods from adding advanced scopes, the range most shots will be fired gives an accuracy bonus to the DXR6.


Against 80-90% AR1 composite, does the AP2 of the laser make it worth it?

98-278 = 188avg *1.25 = 235avg w/ piercing ap2 > ar1.


203-265 = 234avg w/ ar1 = ap1.


and of course the laser will be the clear-and-away winner against classII or lower ranged mitigation.
