i am near master carbiner 4343 and last night i decided to ditch it, i tried soloing a enraged rancor lair and what do you know i died and so did my pets(a savage quenker and a hurrton howler) whilst my friend who is a tkm master soloed several nests/lairs without pets and cained up with ease and before you ask i use comp armour 90% and was buffed including mind buff and food/brandy i mean i love carbiner and i know its broken but i still get annoyed on the fact that i put so much effort into a pro which is one of the weakest so last night i started brawler and i am already 4000, i mean i havent finished carbiner yet nor have i given up the skill yet i am going to master it then ditch it !!!!!!! oh and my weapon is a kori carbine min 80 max 389

Go buffed, use encumbrance sliced 70% ubese, set yourself up 61 meters from the lair and have mask scent on (seems to keep them from finding you as fast), go prone (same reason as mask, and you hit them more often).

Use food to keep your mind high, have muon in your combat task bar just in case.

Send your pets at the lair, not the creatures.

Make sure your using the right weapon, some of those Rancors have a weak spot for acid, think damage sliced slug thrower in those cases.

When yourpets hit the lair they will draw aggro, wait to fire until they take damage, that way they have all the aggro and the Rancors will have pulled themselfes into your cone.

Now, target the lair, not the Rancors, open fire on the lair with your AOE attacks, starting with action shot 2 to land the dots. Use all your AOE attacks with most of them focused on high damage.

Now, they will be confused and want to heal the lair, attack your pets, and attack you. But, the confusion will lend you a lot of time and them a lot of damage.

Dont go to standing until they are real close, and even then don't run, stand there, take the hits and as long as you have rancors in the cone keep firing at the lair.

When the lair blows, use the cones as long as you have rancors targeted and can hit more than 1.

Next target single creatures when the AOE does not apply, stun the creatures, KD then cripple shot until dead.

You will get MASSIVE XP for this and be wildly surprised by how well you do.

Not saying this is fool proof, but if your pets can hold up even a little while you should do very fine and will take that lair down way faster than your TK freind could dream of.

There, you now know my secret to taking out hard lairs solo, now go be a man and don't let those TK's show you up.

I wish! My mom won't let me and it'll have to be a pint of root beer. I know what you mean though, I was a TKM before carbineer.

looking in here to get hints on mastering this prof the quickest.

Chilastra how long were you a MBH?

Took metwo months to master BH with all the screwed up missions.

Then mastered Rifleman in 2 days.

Combat log in PVP began saying things other than "you miss, you miss, you miss...you have been incapped, youhave been slain"

could lay waste in PVE, often never even getting aggroed.

As a former BH and current Rifleman what is your take on Carbines? Worthwhileorone more prof to grind for jedi?

"just finsish the prof off

Thats the only reason to finish this profession. Then drop it fast.

The stragegy comment is helpful and valid. Have used that myself. Give it a try and have fun. Then ask your self, why are you doing this when as a TK you can wade in and knock them all down in a matter of a minute with little or no harm to yourself? Or as a riflemanuse 2 mind shots to kill each beast or strafe them for a bazzillion points (on each beast!) of damage.

Certain classes have major advanages over others. The devs areNOTgoing to fix this. This is just a public service notice....

I gotta tell you, I'm a TKM and 4434 carbineer atm (hologrind), and I have to respectfully disagree with you here. Using my TK skills, with or without vk's, I can buzz through enranged rancor lairs like a hot knife through butter, and that's no joke. With vk's I can regularly hit from between 2.5-3k of dmg per second. The other day I was helping a ranger friend in my guild level on dath and I was a little short on time. 4 enraged ranc missions (2 ea) and off we went.. Well although I haven't checked the books yet, I'm sure we I came pretty close to setting a mission speed record. The full set of 4 missions were done in 15mins tops, and yes I was the only one attacking, (ranger friend has no combat skills). What did occupy the most amount of time was the travel from mission to mission.

When I'm leveling carbineer and I even have a tkm friend of mine tank using just the basic default attack, no specials so I get all the xp we're looking at 7-10mins per lair. That's with no delay, no chit-chat, nothing.. just pure lvling.

I'm not saying these comments as an advertisement for how wonderful the tkm prof. is. I really wish carbs were a better option than what they currently are. It's nice to have a ranged prof. under my belt and almost completed. I just don't see where I would ever use this skill in anything other than casual pve.

If I'm missing something pls feel free to clear it up for me.

i agree with ya. Seen it and lived it too many times. Folks who are grinding for Halos dont care about this because they will move on to another profession soon. People who chose carbineer, like me, because it was what was wanted as a combat profession are the ones affected. You touched on something that a lot of people dont realize, bundling two combat professions such as TK and carbineer gives you a lot of flexabiity and power. However,if your only combat skill is (was) carbineer, you will be left sucking wind a lot.

I took my time moving up the profession because I had other professions I wanted to develop and I knew the combat system had its problems since day one. I finally made master carbine in November..rah. Because combat was not my main thing I was happy for a while.Yes knock down is cool when it works and auto fire is your best friend ....so on;however over time I grew more dissatisfied. Watching other classes such as TK and Rifle (uh, apparently I am not supposed to reference these professions on this forum) wade through medium to high level creatures with little effort just finally got to me. The best thing I was doing for the group was helping them draw higher level creatures from the mission terminal. Yes, I did a lot of damage to the creatures, and yes I occassionaly knocked them down. Whoppeee! When the the target dies from mind shots, it doesnt matter how many health or action wounds it toke before it died. LOL.

There seems to be more than a few people who have faith that SONY will magicaly fix everything. More power to 'em. I have none. Every new patch is just another broken promise. Sigh.

Switched to TK yesterday and as I work up unarmed I am having a blast. Am considering having TK/carbine combo without mastering in either. Then again I might go further into medic. I can shadow a group of carbineers and get lots of experience healing them after each special shot...hehehe......We shall see.....

Interesting. I solo rancors of all types all the time with a plain vanilla DXR6 or nym slug thrower without meatshields or even that uber ubese your reffering to. Personally for most hunts I use mabari armorweave because of the cheap price. I have even gone to the crystal caves of dant with mabari on. Grouped and buffed of course.

This might help. First of all try to single them out. I can handle up to two at a time but not the whole spawn at once. That means get within 60m, go prone, fire action shot 1 (please use 1 as 2 is an AoE), peace out, open range to 80m and wait. The bleed will tick and more often than not the one you bled will come to you. Start kiting. From there you have several posture changes and a kd that might work. If the thing starts getting a little to close for comfort then drop it to its knees and open range. Remember that range is your friend. Usually an action shot will keep it on the ground long enough to get to 60-64m. Take the time to heal if you need to.

If the bleed causes the spawn to agro on itself like it tends to do from time to time (actionshot 2). Then again. Keep downrange and pick them off one at a time. By the time you get to the last one he should be pretty beat up and shouldn't cause too much of a problem.

Carbineer lacks the power of rifleman and the speed of pistoleer. Because of those shortcomings a little finesse is required to be successfull.
