Thread: Just a guy looking into carbineer and want advice from the pros

I was thinking about my combat template and was wondering, is getting master carbine/BH 0400 worth the SP? Or would I be better off with master carbine/some melee pro,(I even thought about rifleman/swordman but this is the carbine forum so lets focus on that
)
I know that BH would help mostly because of speed, and heck I could even get bounty missions then.
I was also wondering if this carbine/BH combo would be good in pvp, seeing as that would be my only combat. Not enough sp left over after that to get something else.
Well let me know what you think, I'm happy for input

Well the answer is really based on your play style. You should think about the possibility of mastering both Carbineer and BH for a very nice, non-FotM, offensive template. But personally I like a good balance of defense, so I picked up Fencer/Pistoleer defenses to soley add to my Master Carbineer.
There is plenty of info in the FAQ and a ton of nice posts on templates both melee and ranged to go with Carbineer in either PvP or PvE. But remember, unless you pick up Doc, you will only be marginal in PvP unless grouped with a Doc or two....

Hmm maybe i'm a noob but I have no idea what FotM is. As far as the rest of your advice I hadn't thought about defense.........Does the defense accuity on tka work yet or is it still broken? (I'm master tka right now and could keep the defense in it if it does work).
Any one else with thoughts? I'll check in again later, bye

Generally refers to the out of balance profs that people try to use to dominate over everybody else.

Ah so thats what FotM means.
And I know that BH/carbineer is a good range combo, but let me restate what I want to know into two simple questions.
#1: would this be good in pvp? and keep in mind I'm usally in a group when I pvp.
#2: Does the defense accuity from tka work and and add on to my carbine defense? Or should I get something else for defense?
If you have no good answer for these thats ok just don't post, i'm sure I can figure this out on my own given enough time

I just finished my transformation into Master Carbineer, BH 0440, Pistoleer 0040, Medic 1030. Before that I was Master Carbineer, Master Fencer, TK 4004, Novice Medic. Basically I gave up a LOT of defense for more offensive power, and thus far I am enjoying it immensely. This setup is designed for PvP, but I found it works nicely in some PvE too. Carbine speed at this level ins insane. I need to buy new Krayt carbines WITHOUT FF stocks now lol, cause speed no longer matters to me on the weapon. This means I can make one with full effort being put into damage and accuracy. Pistols are a GREAT compliment to carbines. Not quite melee, but still good at close range. My defense is lower, but the xx4x tree in pistoleer gave me some moderate state defenses. One tactic that works very well for me 1v1 is to use Confusion Shot (the states actually do seem to stick better and longer than the FA series) and then Fire KD. Once they are dizzy/KD,ICrippling Shot themor use my Geo pistol(for some VERY nice stun damage) to Eye Shot them to death. The use of Stim Cs is also quite nice when I'm buffed.
In long PvP battles, where cloning multiple times is common for everyone, after I loose my buffs my Carbine HAM costs are just a tad too high for my liking. With my new template, I seem to be able to use my Scatter and Geo pistols at much lower HAM costs. This means that I can still have ranged attacks while unbuffed (before all I had to fall back on if unbuffed was melee).
All in all, I'm very happy with my recent changes. The loss of meditate as been a tad bit hard to swallow, but more medic will make up for it if I find myself some wound packs. I intended on picking up 2 lines of pistoleer for defense, but I came to like my offensive ability with the BH pistol line. Carbines are still my passion, and I try to use them as much as possible, but they are not always productive. I think I filled some of those offensive wholes with pistols.
Is my new template uber? Not by any means. Those that know me know I don't go for the FotM templates, or the uber templates. Is my new template fun? Damn skippy! It's a game, and the reason I play is not to win, but to have fun playing it.

I'd still recommend getting your krayt carbines made with FF stocks Eisman. If you get one made with a regular stock and it gets a speed slice, you end up with a gun that isinferior toa damage sliced non-krayt FF-stocked gun. If you you get a speed slice on a krayt FF-stocked gun, you get a gun with insane speed and better than average damage that you might be able to sell at cost. Plus the bonus of having lower HAM costs means that you will have more room in your stomach for more useful things than canape or ahrisa, while you are PvPing (vercupti perhaps).
I just say this because I am currentlyusing a 1.2 million credit laser carbine as an everyday wear and tear gun because that's all it's useful for.

Carbineer/BHx4xx Rules in PvP
I prefer a combo of 4 shots: Confusionshot (stun + dizzy), Actionshot 2 (posture down, bleed), FireKnockdown (if they are posturedownthe knockdownwill almost certainly work) and follow up with Cripplingshot until they either die or get up.
I have virtually no defence from my template but I have never had a problem with this, Carb/BH is a pure offensive combination, if you get in trouble just burstrun and make use of the exploration tree you had to do to get BH, this is also very useful for keeping any melee prof at distance. Remember also that you canrun up hills a lot faster than most ppl. Use hit and run tactics and you will have far more funthanif you relyon your defence stacking to keep you safe.
I opted for as much medic as possible to back me up so I can use stim D's to heal, to be honest I have not had to use stims in PvP yet, nice to know they're there though. Actually I have used them on others in PvP (see your mate in trouble burstrun to him while Kd'ing his opponent and heal him and then help him finish off the guy causing him problems).
One thing to remember: when PvPing do not clone at a city you are defending, clone at a nearby NPC, opposing faction or neutral city. YOU CANNOT PVP UNBUFFED WITH THIS TEMPLATE so make sure you are not overt while looking for a doc.
If your server is anything like Chimaera you will have 1 more advantage in PvP. No-one has any experience of PvPing against a Carbineer so they have no idea what they are up against, we are rarer than Jedi.

This is great input guys, thanks. from what I've read here sounds like defense is less of an issue then I thought although I still wouldn't mind having some good defense just in case. maybe swordman for more counterattack mods, or I can keep my tka defens line it has lots of melee and renge defense. In any case I think I can handle this from here.

BH 0400/Master Carbineer is a great mix, but use wisely the points to supplement it.
Some like me prefer additional healing ability, others like melee complimenting it, others go for more ranged options.

yeap my template as it'll stand once finished:
BH3440/Carbineer4420/Pistoleer0044/Rifleman0004
This way I have:
82 Melee Defense -- Good against melee dudes
65 Def Vs KD
40 Def Vs Dizzy
25 def vs intimidate -- that helps abit
105/170 Carbine speed/accuracy
109/119 Pistol speed/accuracy
and other cool mods
Also:
Fire KD - Confusion Shot - Crippling Shot no need for more, it's fun when fighting medic/combat templates cause 500/600 PvP damage/second can't be healed easy so if they heal themselves, I let em do then switch to pistols with:
Eyeshot - Bleed Shot - Torso Shot (only for factionnal PvP with db) - Stopping Shot.
The template's not over yet (2300 carbineer only) and I won a couple of duels yesterday, including a TKM who couldn't even manage a hit.
My main weapons for PvP are
Regular damage sliced laser carbine (bout 416 max damage)
Dxr6 carbine 3.0 speed 177/307 damage (godlike)
DH17 short Carbine 1.7 speed 337 damage
Scatter Pistol about 2.1 speed 277 max damage (don't remember minimum)
Geonosian Blaster about 2.1 speed 279 max damage (same here)

I think it's a good deal between pistols and carbines, as carbines are abit more tactical and pistols abit more ... well... efficient with eye shot, not even sure, depends on how the duel goes I rarely switch to pistols, but def vs state are good and this way I get ranged mitigation 2 (most of duelists are melee anyway, and I use walls and buildings against ranged fighters)
of course I eat synthsteak, def vs KD food (I'll switch to Def vs Dizzy cause Def vs Kd does nothing against dizzy/posture change, what jedis use), brandy x2 or x3 depending on timers, and I'll restart using spices as well.
Synthsteak is cool cause it reduces damage taken for 30/40 next attacks, the cool part is that it lasts about 1 hour so I can take it whenever I want and let my stomach go empty before I start fighting. 30 or 40 attacks means one other thing: 30 or 40 seconds you have a major advantage to see how you're enemy's fighting and choose your tactic, see if he has def vs states, see if he runs or stands still etc...
