Decided to do some playing on TC and have really enjoyed playing my current Carbineer/BH. I was just wondering if any of you have played as a Carbineer/Ranger and if so, was it fun? My idea is to use a ranged powerup that increases MAX range mod and lowers action cost while having some high HAM creatures tank. Any thoughts?

I have a toon on Radiant that is carbineer/ranger, along with marksman ranged support which is awesome to set tons of different states and control their distance from you. I have ventured most of the tough planets unbuffed and managed most of the time to control the mobs like rancors with actionshot1 (posture down), threatenshot, warningshot, wildshot, chargeshot, you name it. I even use glow juice or adhesive mesh traps to lower their defenses.
It's fun, until you run into mobs with high resists vs carbine damage then you gotta run.

I am a Carbineer/Ranger/CH. It's a lot of fun. I spend most of my time filling orders for meat on Dath. I make about 250K credits a day hunting Dath meat as a Carbaranger.

Is it possible that you mean carbineer/CH? The only reason I ask is because of your reference to having a high HAM creature tank. I have a carbineer/ranger, which is perfect for hunting. With the assortment of traps, and carbineer state attacks, I can often fight higher level creatures and keep them far enough away from me that I rarely ever get hit (mostly by using glow wire traps to lower defenses, posture down attacks, knockdown, Pdarts and adhesive mesh (both can be made at scout but are more effective as you go up trapping in the ranger tree) area stun attacks and traps, blinding area traps etc). It isn't very useful in pvp, but this character was basically designed for being effective at gathering high amounts of meat, hide, and bone.

I have a Bothan Ranger/Carbineer, with some Medic and CH skills mixed in. I chose to go with carbines for a number of reasons. First, I rolled this character with novice scout as my starting profession. Bothan scouts start with an 1100 action pool, which is nice to absorb some of the higher HAM costs for carbines. Considering thatI don't get buffs, I need all of the advantages I can get. Also, I already have a Rifleman and Pistoleer going on other servers, so I didn't feel like doing another one of those.
I'm loving Carbineer for pretty much the reasons that have already been stated: state application, posture changes, crowd control, etc, using both my carbine and traps. The only drawback that I'm going to have is that I'm notgoing to have enough points to Master Carbineer without dropping just about everything that isn't related to that or Master Ranger. I'll be able to get the first two trees done without having to sacrifice too much, but anything beyond that it starts to cut into my desired template.

Love my carbines, Definately awesome for controlling your targets... If there's onlyone of them. If you end up with a social group, forget it and bail. Personally I've just gotten tired of Ranger being a huge drain on skill points, and Carbineer not being effective against high end content. Basically don't expect to PvP with a Carbineer/Ranger, you'll get wasted by the CMs, Bounty Hunters, Jedi, Doctors, Riflemen, every melee profession, basically in PvP you rank a little higher than the Entertainers and Artisans.

Cool. This topic makes me feel better about my choice. I was going Ranger/Rifleman, but my heart and playstyle leans towards Carbineer. I'm glad to know that others have fun with this combo, and find it successful to boot!
Tonight, I drop Rifle and pick up my Carbine!

Thanks for the input all. I just mastered carbineer last night and had already reached BH 0400 . Not sure if I'm going to do the ranger thing, but it is definatly a possibility. As for mob control - Action shot 2 is cone effect and what about suppression fire 2 or charge shot 2?
