I'm thinking of becoming a master rifleman and either a master carbineer or pistoleer. The major consideration right now are the area attacks. I know pistoleer has a couple of area attacks and I know carbineer has some too.

Are the the Carbineer area attacks better than the pistoleer area attacks?

If so how are they better? Do the Carbineer area attacks cover a larger area, or do they cause more damage, or do they cause certain states? (I don't think the weapon should be a consideration in terms of area of coverage for an area attack because I could always use a rifle with this template.)

I know pistoleer can also root. Can carbineer do anything like that?

I've got a thread floating around about making a new template. I've had Master Carbineer forever, and am not dropping it anytime soon. However, I had Master Rifleman as well, and it really didn't work out for me that well. I probably could have played around a little more and it been a bit more improved. If your still going with it, Carbineer wise, it's really strong. There are the ranged accuracy and speed just from the template alone. Headshot coupled with Legshot is devestating too. The snare which is crippling shot, is a stronger snare, and there is always the fall back AOE suppression fire. Full Auto Area is an extremely usefull attack, especially if your trying to build xp up if you ever go for the force sensetive. Hope that helps a bit.

Carbineer's Full Auto Area has a larger cone than Pistoleer's Fan Shot, but since they're both AOE damage attacks, they're perfect for alternating. Carbineer's other area attack is Suppression Fire, which is a short duration AOE snare. Carbineer does not have a root, but to be honest in many cases you don't really need one that bad... crippling shot is an excellent single target snare which accomplishes nearly the same job.

Hunting wise, FAA and FS are tearing the scene up. Group duel wise, it's helping with the edge. A mix of Root/Snare/KD and then some AOE and it's really shaking things up. Carbineer with just minor Pistoleer added has already out weighed the MCarb/MRifle temp I had.
