Greetings. I was here for launch of Galaxies many moons ago, and left for a year and a half to do some college and Air Force stuff. I am still doing all that, but am back, and trying to catch up on what I missed (aka, A LOT). Most of this stuff is carbineer questions, plus some general things. Some of these are old questions, but forgive me, it's either pour over the boards, or study for my Differential Equations test this week. Move/delete this as needed. Thx.

First off, I am a novice carbineer, was using an old laser carbine, just bought an E11 that does more damage and takes less reload time. (141/253 2.9 sec...I think). Bout 120 total special cost (60H 50A 10M...I think)
-I am frustrated by the fact that the only things I can kill are blue enemies, and even then I have some close calls (even the angry butterflies of Naboo can crush my little head). I saw someone post in here that they had gone through the whole tree in 6 hours and am wondering what sort of black voodoo they used. (And I tried the "run around shooting everything on Yavin IV w/o stopping" that someone in here suggested...I never knew one could die so fast...) Are doc buffs really the only way to survive at all out in the woods?
-What armor would be good for a primarily PvE grind? I was thinking bone, but am not sure. I have an old set of chitin (got it during the second week of the game), but that doesn't seem to help too much. Maybe I am just crazy or something, or maybe I need to get a new set of chitin.
-Legshot3, actionshot1, and Burstshot1 seem to be my best friends right now, any suggestions for expanding that club? (I know cripplingshot, but that is several blocks away for me)
-Would getting socketed clothing/armor help much? If so, what would be a good place to start buffing (accuracy for starters...). See below for the next limiting factor...
-Back in my day, 80k was a lot of money. I blew through that in the 2 days since I have been back (damn you and your nice expensive starships!...and weapons...and speederbikes...). I see things for sale that cost 13 million credits, how does one amass such a fortune? Does it come from doing all the missions needed to complete a tree, or are there newer get rich quick schemes?

-Same question for faction points (so many colonels w/ AT STs walking around...)

-Where is a good place to group. I mean the old school groups of 15 people getting together and hunting big angry things in the dune sea and other places. The closest thing I have found has been Dantooine, but that is all solo groupers (a far cry from huddling around Nym's stronghold Spaceport forming a kimogila group).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(And I tried the "run around shooting everything on Yavin IV w/o stopping" that someone in here suggested...I never knew one could die so fast...) Are doc buffs really the only way to survive at all out in the woods? Doctor Buffs and armor are both going to be needed. Also remember to check an enemy's resistances and HAM bars before you try to kill it. Be sure to carry a DXR6 (acid) carbine and an EE3 (heat) along with your energy carbine. Entertainer buffs are helpful, but not required if you use vasarianbrandy. It would probably be best to get Entertainer buffs and keep some brandy handy for emergencies.
-What armor would be good for a primarily PvE grind? I was thinking bone, but am not sure. I have an old set of chitin (got it during the second week of the game), but that doesn't seem to help too much. Maybe I am just crazy or something, or maybe I need to get a new set of chitin. Those armor types won't do you too much good when you're trying to grind. You're gonna have to dish out some more cash to get composite armor with around 80% resistance to kinetic damage or better. Luckilly, though, I think you only need the Helmet, Gloves, Chest Piece, and Boots to get full protection, so that should save a little money.
-Legshot3, actionshot1, and Burstshot1 seem to be my best friends right now, any suggestions for expanding that club? (I know cripplingshot, but that is several blocks away for me) Personally, I like full auto single 2 for taking on enemies one by one. Burst shot 1 has lower HAM costs, but since you need to be buffed to grind at a good pace, HAM costs won't be a problem.
-Would getting socketed clothing/armor help much? If so, what would be a good place to start buffing (accuracy for starters...). See below for the next limiting factor... I'm able to gain skills efficiently without using any modified armor or clothing. It helps, but isn't really required. If you can, try to get some extra speed, but don't put it before armor or weapons.
Money is a bit harder to make now for combat professions than it once was. People used to be able to get in a large solo group, making 30k + credit missions appear on the terminals, and complete those by themselves, getting 30k. Now the money is divided among group members, though group members that are far away will not get the money. Instead, their share will just kind of....go poof

You can still make money by grinding missions, which will also gain you good xp. I would suggest grinding quenkers on dantooine. You should be able to handle them unarmored if you're buffed and careful (start the fight prone so you get three shots in before they notice you, stop attacking the lair once another quenker spawns to prevent getting swarmed, etc. )

I've been making a little money by selling loot from Fort Tusken on the bazaar. You won't get TOO much, but it's pretty easy money that adds up as people buy your stuff . I've also looted crystals and a few decent clothing attachments there. Buffed, armored, using a DXR6, and being careful, you should be able to handle them.

-Same question for faction points (so many colonels w/ AT STs walking around...) Grind faction missions, grind enemy faction NPCs, etc. You can also buy faction points from other players (which can be kind of expensive).

You aren't going tofind many people who want to group old school style. Best bet would probably be to get some buddies together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to mention. A lot of what I said will change in a month or so when the Combat Upgrade comes (not sure if you're up to date with this or not ). Buffs and armor are not going to be as powerful as they are now, people will most likely have to group and work togetherto take on things that can currently be taken solo. Defenses, weapon speed calculations, special abilities, class roles, etc. will be changed. Actually, just click here to see the information

We don't really know how difficult it will be to gain skills after the Combat Upgrade, so it might be best to grind now.

Thanks for the info, very insightful. I was reading up on the CU, though a lot of it didn't make too much sense (that is what I get for being out of the loop). Should be interesting to see how everything changes around with the CU and the new expansion. Hopefully it helps out with some issues instead of complicating and breaking even more stuff.

You might want to go on Test Center 5 and experience the CU changes for yourself

Might want to turn the sound off when you fire the CDEF carbine though

While composite gives the best protection, for killing critters a good ubese or even a good chitin armor will be okay too, if you can find an Armorsmith who still makes those. But Bone was really your worst choice because it is vulnerable vs. Kinetic. It protects moderately well against low/mid level NPCs (energy) but every creature will rip right through it.

But of course all that will change with the CURB.

The concerns you voiced with armor and buffs..hopefully they will be taken care of with the CU. I'm really looking forward to moderate armor use and making buffs that is something helpful, rather than required.

Yeah, back when I played, the devs said they wanted to avoid having EVERYONE wearing armor, since not everyone in the star wars universe wore it. Guess the "game experience may change with time" warning holds true. And right when I left, there were scarce few doctors who could give a weak buff, guess they have come into their own now.
