I've been a ranger for a while now, with swordsman as my combat profession. This is really strong, but has one major drawback, buffs are essential if you ever want to use a special. So, I'm dropping that. I know there are lots of comments on here about usual templates, but this is a little different. I'm thinking of going rifleman 4-0-0-4, plus 2 lines of CH. Thats the speed line/accuracy line of rifles, with headshot 3. 2 lines of CH would allow me a lvl 36 pet, which any BE worth his salt can make a pet with light armor and 60% kin. This would leave a few more points, which I would probably spend in FS skills, (survival, ranged speed.) What do you think? Thanks in advance.

Any DE can make a tank droid, 4500 HAM, self repairable, 40% resists across the board, AND IT COSTS NO SKILL POINTS TO USE.

Anything that stops you from mastering a combat profession is a waste. Mastering rifles will make you so much better than what you intend to try it is not funny. Would you take two or three lines in swords? No. Why do the same in rifles?

Master rifles, get a droid or two and go from there. Droids do different types of damage, kinetic, blast and electrical (depends on the type). Pets by and large do kinetic - many large creatures have 100% kinetic resistance. Simply a waste of skill points.

And no, not now and never have been a DE, tho I know a deal when I see one. Free is good, specially when I don't spend skill points.

JB you should get bonus forum points for the biggest supporter of combat droids. Your never dying promotion of them has caused people to rethink CH. Or at least if there a CH like me to keep their droid out at the same time

I feel compelled to second what's been said. I was MCH and used my pet tanks to level Master Rifleman. I have sinced dropped MCH for MR. I remember the day I went from Rifle 4444 to Master. I nearly fell off my chair! Rifle really is all or nothing. I have only bought buffs twice and leave my armor at home. With a little planning and brandy (and pixie/muon for emergencys) I do just fine. Normally I prone at 60 meters mind shot/head shot (most things die before they get to me). When in doubt, I'll conceal shot (BTW itis MUCH faster at Master) in fact if I'm not paying attention, my combat queue will run out and and I'll autofire lol. Every now and then I'll get into trouble but with burstrun, stim B, strafe shot 2, and spice standing by, I can manage... usually. And I'm not talking about hunting Durnies. I leveled Ranger on Dathomier and never used armor or buffs mostly hunting Gaping Spider Hunters or Karmuths <sp>. Just learn about ALL of your Rifle skills, have acid, energy, and cold rifles, and above all know thy critter.

Oh, and never hesitate to risk death in order to try something new... just rember to clone. (I learned a lot that way).

One of these days I'll get a droid too.

And no, I'm not speed capped (close but not quite there).

I was in your boat, Master is the way to go.

I can't really tell ya what you're doing wrong -- that's exactly what I do, and I'm extremely successful at it. I can tell you, however, that after BE clothes + rebel signetring + spec ops backpack my camo is at about +130 (I think).

But if you get argoed, use your traps. I have a couple of macros set up where I can send in my tank droid and launch a snare and/or roottrap. If the droiddoesn't take the agro off me, good luck trying to catch me. That droid, btw, has tanked entirelairs of Engraded Rancors and survived long enough for my strafeshot2s to kill everything (about 10 seconds, lol), so he's definitely worth it. What are you hunting that's smelling you in 3-4 shots?

But yes, you can use this profession withouta tank. I've taken out Ancient Bulls without the droid (I was out of batteries, lol). I could rely on those snare/root traps entirely, but when I got agroed it'd just mean I'd have to run a littlefurther to getwhole lairoff me. I pull the droid out just incase, but I can usually take out entire Rancor lairs without getting agroed, and if they indeed are stupid enough to come after me, they'll usually die before they even get close. I send in the droid, but half the time his target is dead before he gets in range. Another fun thing to do is to pull, run about 100m away, then wait for thebleed to setin andtrap, send in droid, and kite withheadshot3s. You can kill pretty much any creature that your traps will stick to using that.

By the way, speed capped rifleman have the highest damage output in the game. You could EASILY cap your xp twice in a buff session (if you're doing the whole FS thing, that is).

So my advice: pick CH or pick Ranger, but you have to master rifles. It just isn't a friendly "dabbler" profession. Ranger is, IMO, a way better choice, but CH has a lot of benifits on its own right and can be a lot of fun too. It really comes down to what you want more of: tanking power (CH with BE pets) or concealment and other clevertools (Ranger with camokits, droids, traps, etc.). You'll have to use a lot more tactics with Ranger (hint: use traps!), but I promise that you'll be able to kill just as well.

Good luck.

Master Rifleman is a whole new profession. You can shoot most specials at close to one shot per second. It makes things a lot faster. Also, you might want to consider using the special /concealshot (x/1/x/x Rifleman). It lets you shoot without agroing the creature (i.e. you can shoot 10000 times and still not get agroed). It isn't perfect (you have to be farther than 40m away, you can cause a 1 point bleed that will bring agro on you, ....) but it will let you fight just about anything at a low level in rifleman. As you go up in Rifleman, it becomes less necessary. At Master Rifleman, there is very little that can run to you and hit you before you can kill it.

With this template of combined force intimidate and FA you should be able to take quite a bit of hits. Novice defender doesn't give a whole lot but couldn't think of anywhere else to put the extra skill points you got the advantage of master lightsabers for being able to deal out awesome damage, and healing 4004 for healing states, dots, and dmg. Let's hear your opinion

Okay,

Force intimidate is by and large not as efficent as the simple Novice brawler intimidate.

MLS, leaving behind my dicussions of pros and cons, is not bad choice.

You nailed the need on healing, with the other option of 3004/4004

Force armor sucks you dry in force pool. May want to readdress that.

You also have master reflexses, was wondering why? you have commited to 7 FS lines instead of 6.

Not sure if you want it, but if you shave out of novice defnder, the extra FS line, and to 3004, you hav ethe option of FR1 at 2404. You could also change things with force armor, if you chose.

I love defender, but if you are just getting the novice box, may want to see what else you could get.

hehe i've posted alot asking about those two templates, the seond one is identictal to mine the first one is similar. Master powers speciels take a ton of force and i have 0 idea how long it takes for a dual master prof to regen a full force bar, also i hear that force speed really helps powers.

For template 1 I'd try take Force Armour 1 instead of Novice Defender, at least that way you'd have some damage reduction you can count on. Like below, you better be ready to hit them hard and hope for the best.

For template 2 try heal 3000 and enhance 0002 in stead of heal 4004. As a master power you will have to channel a lot to keep up. Just hope for the best with the states. I have a friend that has MLS/MDef Heal 3000 and 0002 Enhance and he still does very well, vs regualar players he is unbeaten, vs other Jedi he still does well. He just waits out the dizzy KD and heals until he can stand up.

Its obvious a lack of Master Powers Jedi (on pretty much every server as Ive seen) is a bad sign that its not a very good template atm. This will definetly be a fun template tho, just not too many want to spend the points to give it a try. You will have to figure out who to choke and weaken, and when to run away.
