Thread: Carbineers winning in PvP?

well, i don't think anyone expects a non-master to win in PvP.
for one, use elites. ranged mitigation usually kills most of a lasers effectiveness in PvP. if your not a BH and don't have +20 or so in speed attachments, use faster carbines, not higher damaging ones.
since the patch, i have PvPed about 6 or so times using nothing but carbines (for the first time since the chargeshot nerf, too). I managed to win every single time but one (damn MCM healed my opponents mind while we were dueling...).
I blew away my guildie (a TKM) in a duel as a 3-3-1-2 Carbineer... KD stuck on the first shot, and 3 burstshots later he was incapped!! ![]()
I was helping him grind doctor xp and we were bored, so we decided to duel... i got schooled in the next duel by a pikeman who I was also helping to grind doctor
(I was only training skills... there were plenty of AFK tumblers spamming for tips... hehe - as if they were really working hard)

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here (may as well, not like accuracy is anything I have to worry about with a carbine) and guess that the TKM wasn't buffed? Also gonna guess he had no armor on and very likely wasn't even powerboosted? I was a master carb a while ago and TKAs with only a couple boxes would get the KD and dizzy on me and I couldn't do anything. Or they'd just hit me with a blind and I wouldn't be able to land a single shot.
neither of us were buffed, neither had armor... like i said, we were bored...and he missed with his KD/Dizzy, btw... but I have +17 inMelee Defense tapes, and +4 in Def v KD/Dizzy tapes as well, so that might help too
I'm talking about just carbineers. We're slow and weak, why? Didn't I spend enough damn skill points? I MASTERED THE USE OF CARBINES! We cannot fight someone who is buffed with armor; period.
I was just in another fight, perhaps the most pathetic yet. I land in kaadara to do some low level hunting, I'm overt waiting for the hour to pass to go covert. Walking through the starport I see some dead Imperial NPCs and figure there must be a reb somewhere (there's usually at least one just killing the NPCs covert). I get outside, see some reb NPC commandos fighting it out with the stormtroopers so I start shooting them, chargeshot2, start burstshotting to hit the 2 at the same time. Then out of the right side of my screen I see the ever-present blue shots of a jawa rifle. I turn and look, there's the reb, buffed in full composite as usual. But the...a ray of hope! He pukes.
It's gotta be a muon downer cause his mind drops to about 1 and he takes off running, making it around behind some buildings while I type in /burst and give chase. I start trying to spam scattershot in my desperate attempt to knock off his last bit of remaining mind. But...I just cant. Between his helmet stopping everything and my constant inability to shoot the broad side of a **edit**ing barn I can't get that TINY bit of mind he as left. The whole fight was about a minute long, my aiming chances stayed at -50 even though I am a master carbineer with +6 aiming while moving skill mods in my suit. The few times I did hit him I barely scratched him and couldn't seem to get the KD or any state to stick. Eventually his mind actually regened enough for him to start using specials again and he knocked through my mind while I sat there helpless. I couldn't do anything to help my mind pool, I was full of 2 brandys and had already taken my muon. So he incapped and followed it up with a quick sniper shot that I've grown so accustomed to.

Sorry about the double post, seems to happen when I get disconnected and reconnect while I'm typing the post. Anyone know how to edit a post? Can't seem to find the option anywhere.
i think you have to me a "Community Veteran" (see title under your name at left) to be able to edit posts... although I'm not sure on that... ![]()

Just got Master Carbineer and was dueling a friend of mine who's a fencer/working on 2-handed. For the first time in a long while I actually beat somone one-on-one. But, here's the catch, I had to clean out his mind pool to incap him (we were both buffed). I was using fullauto and getting the states to stick, dizzy worked and got a KD or two in, but it never lasted long enough. It usually took about 4 shots to get a dizzy on, then I had to worry about getting the KD which takes another 2-3 shots, and with carbines being slow, that adds up to about 4 seconds of time he's actually on the ground. Using cripple and burstshot was totally useless, they can't do anything against a buffed person much less someone with armor on, and their total incosistency and tendency to hit every pool makes them very ineffective. Onestim and all of the 6-9 shots I put into him are worthless. Only thing thats been doing me much of any good is scatter shot, but since it's spread out over all 3 pools it isn't very powerful.
I've been giving some thought to dropping it (yes, again) but I heard some encouraging news that we might get even bigger changes in the next patch. That there's supposed to be a combat/classes revamp starting with commandos and carbineers. If anyone knows anything about what else might be coming for us, please share. For a long time I considered myself a die-hard carbineer and, if we really get any chance at all at being good at PvP, I'd really like to stay with this class.
You do
