Thread: Carbine in PVP
The best thing to do is to read the FAQ Nova worked so hard to put together, but since I'm waiting on my lunch t be delivered, I might as well steer you in the right direction.
While you are starting out, the DH17 Snubnose can be an awesome PvE weapon for a begining carbineer. I bought one pre-sliced that is 1.9 Spd, 112-218 Dmg. The only downfall to the Snub is that it has no AP, thus it's good for unarmored opponents. I still carry that little guy with me to this day.
Another one you'll want for leveling up is a Laser Carbine. It's raw high end power and AP2 make it a must have. At Carbines IV in Marksman, pick up a DXR6. It's AP1 and acid damage, coupled with a meaty minimum damage, make this one nice for medium to high end PvE as well as PvP. Don't forget to grab an EE3 for the heat damage, as it is nice to have as many tools for the job as you can. Once you are a Novice Carbineer, pick up an Elite.
Our profession requires us to think about each target. We have many weapons to choose from, so examine your target and choose your most suitable tool for the job. Until you are a master, and pick up some more speed either from BH or from skill attachments, you'll probably want speed slices. Once you have enough speed to cap out Crippling Shot, you'll be looking for damage slices.

How high a speed you have to have to cap crippling shot? I have +85 with my template and it works just fine
+85 Carbine Speed caps CripplingShot on a 2.6 weapon or faster......

Wow, I didn't know so many Master fencer/ Master Carbs out there? I'm working for Carbineer atm.
Any suggestions for which guns to use in PvP. At first I thought I'd hate carbs and jsut wanted to try out another ranged so people would stop calling me fotm for being rifles/fencer, but now I'm starting to enjoy it more than any ranged proff. I found a fewDH17 2.9 112-226 on bazar and bought 6 for a good 20% dam slice and a 33% speed, At comparison to the Cdef carbine its a monster, do all the upper carbines have this quality? I guess I'm just asking which ones are best and how to make them uber.
I find myself using quite a selection of Carbines in PvP, actually. Generally speaking, I'll use a Krayt speed-sliced Enhanced E11 to apply states(make sure you have atleast one weapon that you speedcap - I picked the E11 because it's not too mitigation-influenced, and it applies a useless but doctor-tiring bleed which seems to annoy many) and then follow up with an Acklay baton for a melee kill.
Still though, the Elite carbine against Ranged professions and the Laser Carbine against other enemy melee-ers works wonders when they are wearing Stun protective armor (and/or a Stun PSG), which is common.
Most tactics involve the use of simply using the FullAuto series (at the speedcap, so make sure you calculate it and get a weapon accordingly) to inflict atleast a Dizzy.. then ChargeShot.. then use ScatterShot/FullAuto/Cripple or just plain Fencer.
That said, I also tend to use a Krayt DXR6 often - very few PvPers have an 80% special protection Acid suit.. (same for Heat), so having a "good" acid gun will actually inflict more damage on a standing armored target than simply using a Laser Carbine.
Damage output isn't ideal, and without speed-slices or +25 speed attachments, it is going to feel rather slow.. but thats where Krayt Tissues and Imperial stocks come into play. I suggest that *any* Carbineer/Fencer that wishes to PvP get at the minimum Krayt weapons and an Acklay baton.

DXR-6 is my carbine of choice for PvP because PSGs are weak to acid. There was an arguement that since the AP1 Acid vs AR 0 PSG (AR 0 since its weak) that it actually amplifies your damage x1.25. DXR has almost elite like damage (200+ min, almost 400 max with dmg powerups) however speed is like 4.1 so its not good for people who dont have BH mods like I do.
Yes, Composite armor is so Un-Star Warsy it makes me wanna puke.
All armor should be downgraded. I could see some ordinary clothing, like some type of pants and jackets, being low-end armor just to get away from "armor looks".
The heaviest armor we see in the movies have to the Ubese, and that's hardly an armor.
But the devs has created a big problem with one "world" for PvE and then a completly other one for PvP. Makes it very complicated to balance. I could see some balanced pure PvP weapons (not usuable in PvE) just so we get balance.
New little combo I picked up on this weekend, TAFirehawk should be on standby to thwap me for recommending something he hates, but it worked nicely.
I went one on one with a TKM/Master Brawler at close range and wasted him without him ever hitting me.
I opened up with ScatterShot2 to get his attention, hit the BurstRun and started the duel running in steady circles around the courtyard of my guild's player city.
Once I hit BurstRun, I switched over to FullAutoArea2 (yeah, its area, but its what the spam macro I use is set for, it got the job done) until the Dizzy landed. I then fired four ChargeShots (not a quadtap, four shots spaced between two or three FullAuto shots until it landed), then switched back to ScatterShot2 and wiped his Mind bar through full Composite armor in five shots (1100 points of damage total).
I'm a Master Carbineer, with +7 Carbine Speed tapes, +11 Accuracy While Moving tapes, and the Carbine I used was an Enhanced E11, .9 speed, 115-257 damage, no power ups.

Unfortunately, this is now all too true. Armor in this game is spiraling out of control. Sometimes I forget this is Star Wars and think I am a Space Marine from Warhammer 40k.
PvP really is quite pointless now and will remain so until the Devs get around the Combat Rebalance.
There has been mention of an ARMOR NERF from the Devs on two occasions now.....my thoughts are take all the armor and reduce it by 25% on the stats page or include a 0.75X muliplier on the armor calculations. This would take 90% Comp down to 67% and completely change the face of PvP in the game....along with the Combat Balance of course.

Heh, i figured I'd be in for a thwap because of the fourtap ChargeShots.
Just in case, I was buffed beyond the gills too.
2400 Doctor buffs, Dancer buffs for 1750 base Mind, 2x 423 Vaserian, Vercupti (+965, ran out of the good ones), and a Neutron Pixie.
Even if he hit me, it wasn't going to be a quick fall.
