I was a big fan of Carbine until a friend talked me into trying out Pistol. Yes, sad to say Carbine sucks as is. And right now nothing comes close to Rifle in PvP. Not only is mind not healable but it’s not buffable—besides wimpy short lived food buffs.

I like being a Carbineer too. It's nice to be different.I do wish I had a better understanding of precisely what our specials do, which work and which don't, etc. I've read through the helpful sticky-ed thread on our specials, and I'm still confused.


I prefer our weapon to pistols and rifles. People say that riflemen are neat because they can target Mind in PvP, but mind heals may well be coming, negating some of that advantage. And while pistols make for more sturdiness in melee, but pistol-wielders don't seem to do nearly as much damage as I do. I watch the numbers in the combat-spam screen, and I consistently outdamage pistoleers with more skill than I have. In fact, I seem to outdamage everyone if I spam my specials, which I can get away with in a group with a doctor (to heal me) or good tanks (giving me time to heal myself).

I like being a carbineer. Been one since the start. I have Carbineer 3/4/0/4 and BH carbine IV, so carbine is the only weapon I use. I have the BH line for speed/acc mostly. Crippling shot and scattershot2 are really nice and shooting at 1.0 speed with laser carbine with 60-400(dont remember exact numbers) damage is EXTREMELY nice.

Originally when I started playing, I had the intention of being a Carbineer/SL. Then I started reading the boards and found out that they were two of the most broken classes in the game. Not wanting to be stuck with a useless character for 3 months until they got around to fixing things, I decided to switch to Pistoleer, aiming for that ranged AOE knockdown. After a few boxes, I realized a) that Pistoleers are just as bad off as Carbineers in a lot of aspects and b) the ranged knockdown wasn't supposed to be there. Sure enough, there it went and I came back to Carbineer. I'm 1/3/0/2 and gotta say, I'm really liking it.


I think a lot of people don't realize that a lot of the complaints of Carbineers are very similar to Pistoleer issues - possibly Riflemen too, I've never really read their boards. The impression I get of them is that at Novice and as they grind up, Riflemen are difficult - but once you hit Master and get your speed mod maxed out, they're lethal. Anyways, I digress - back to Carbineer and Pistoleer. Both professions have a number of specials that don't seem to work the way they should, or have wrong descriptions. As it stands right now, the most effective specials for both are random HAM shots (Crippling/FAS2 and Stopping Shot/Last Ditch for any Pistoleer/Smugglers). Pistols, of course, have way lowerHAM costs, but also have no armor penetration past light, which is a real pain when you start doing high-level PvE.


I guess the point I'm trying to get at is that people need to realize that almost EVERYthing in this game is broken right now. The boards (in general) seem to be the place where the most verbal, negative minority congregates to bitch about what doesn't work. Read any board and the majority of the posts you see are:


OMG WE ARE SO BROKEN


OMG THIS DOESN'T WORK


OMG <INSERT CLASS HERE> IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN US


It's especially bad on the Pistoleer boards, which is the only board I've seen that has OTHER CLASSES coming to bitch about how they need to be nerfed...it's really quite disgusting.

While I like the carb and realize that everything in this game is broken, here's the list for those that think carbineer is not broken.


Area attacks only damage the target on the first shot. They only do area damage after the monster has been aggro'd.


ActionShot 2 - There is some debate over whether it is supposed to hit multiple targets as it does. See problem with area attacks.


FullAutoSingle 1 - this is supposed to blind, stun and dizzy. Dizzy lasts for 0 seconds. Stun is broken. According to its description, it should cause 1 missed combat turn and lowered stats. I have tested this with a fellow carbineer and it does neither. Blind appears to have no effect on melee attacks, only ranged attacks.


Scatter shot - this appears to be working ok but the damage amounts do not show properly. All hits register as 1 damage.


Wild shot - this works as promised. It stuns the target. Problem is, as mentioned above,stun is broken. See problem with area attacks.


Leg shot 3 - does the same damage as legshot 2.


Cripple shot - this barely does more damage than fullAutoSingle 2. Pretty worthless when fullAuto is supposed to blind, stun and dizzy.


Burst shot 1 - what is this even for? Really? When you have fullAuto and cripple shot? Burst shot doesn't do more than either of those, so this is worthless.


Burst shot 2 - no better than burst shot 1.


Suppression fire 2 - doesn't work.


FullAutoArea 1 and 2 - same problems as FullAutoSingle. Blind, dizzy and stun are broken. See problem with area attacks.


Charge Shot 1 - this is actually bugged but in a positive way for us. If you haven't figured it out, I'm not telling cause it would get fixed tomorrow.


Charge Shot 2 - doesn't do group knockdown. Doesn't even knock down the target. See problem with area attacks.



We are the only fighting class that gets no new special at master. We have the lowest +speed modifiers of any class by far.

Matados, you descriped them pretty well, except for this:

FullAutoSingle2 doesnt do much damage, but with cripple, my max shot has been 7000(above head, dont remember combat tab number) with laser carbine that does 50-427(powerupped). Also, fullautosingle costs alot more.

i do wish the specials are worked on, and the ham reduced, but its coo.

mayb cause my main profession is swordsman, and in pvp i start off with carbines and usually end up finishin them with a power hammer or cured sword.

You're right. Cripple shot can and does hit for more max damage than fullAutoSingle2. While I didn't keep good track when I tested all this stuff, it seemed to me that Cripple had a crazy range of damage (as low as 54 with a 34-250 unsliced carb) while fullAuto seemed to be more consistent aroud 300-800. I'll have to test out the damage over a long series of attacks to see if I am imagining things or what (that muon gold can have hallucinagenic side effects
