I don't know...not sure why the HAMs need to cost so dang much. ...maybe the devs helping us out in the HAM costs a tad.
As far as dizzy/knockdown.
Not so sound negative, more like realistic, don't expect any help on our HAM costs for a while because:
1) The upcoming combat revamp is rumored to contain a fix for the carbine HAM costs...the fix may be something we want...maybe not...and it may be totally shocking. Whenever someone asks about it Thunderheart and the correspondents point to TH's post named "The Art Of Combat" or something like that...in that post he alludes to the fact we use our specials too much and not enough "tactics" (I thought using our specials was a tactic...guess I was wrong) and that the "default" attack should be what we use the most. In this light it sounds like everyone is getting a nasty HAM increase to reduce our dependency on specials...personally I think its a stupid idea considering we spend around 5,000,000XP to master and elite combat profession only to NOT be allowed to use our specials effectively due to some non-players' views of how combat "should be".
2) The devs admitted back in late 2003 that our HAM costs were too high and they'd be adjusted for the original combat re-vamp. That re-vamp was scrapped but the carbineers were left hanging; they didn't even throw us a bone which is why I had switched to Bounty Hunter back then (came back because the skill points are too limiting, no defensive skills, and BH droids weren't working properly).
I don't mean to sound negative...just trying to be realistic. Everything seems to be on track to fix all the professions, not just Carbineer, I just don't think the "fix" is what a lot of us are going to be expecting.

they won't go carbineer, they'll just pick up CM now that defenses are gone

Rifleman will be the FOTM for awhile.
Why? Because it's the easiest class to be good at...
Master it, Get a Jawa Ion Rifle, and spam Head Shot 3. Damage the mindpool everyone is vulnerable too -- that's not riflemans fault tho, its the Devs for not realizing how unbalancing stun weapons are.
And not having stun layer resources spawn anywhere....

def Rifleman / CM = FOTM, but I'm still left wondering if a Carbineer / Rifleman or a Carbineer / Doc combo played well could beat the majority of CM / Riflemen if played well... Considering the CM's need to stand to throw poisins + we have supression fire + dizzy.

Riflemen have astun-type weapon and mind specials to compliment.
Carbineers don't.
Mind pool attacks simply dominate the battlefield, which explains the lack of originality in pvp templates.
Granted, most of our specials are now in a working state, and I'm quite content with that for now, but when you don't have any weapons that can pierce through a decent set of composite on a fully buffed person, who is probably holding a jawa ion cannon or a t21...... we aren't up to par on that. Any FOTM whores seeking to be gods in PvP, need not dabble in carbineer. It won't help your 'uberness'.
The solution to this is if we get a larger variety in weapon damage types other than acid, energy or heat. Lower HAM costs would be appreciated too; It's my hope that we may see such things come inpatch 8 for the combat revamp.

Well,
I mastered Rifle back in early August when it was hard to do. I've kept it since. My first holo said Fencer. Lucky me as I got all the Defense bonuses. (I've kept the melee/ranged defense line by the way)
Second holo said Carbineer. Hmm lucky me again. With FlurryShot2 from Rifle and Chargeshot2 from Carbineer, I've had several NPC Imps flopping like fish for quite a bit while I wail on em with my Jawa or Genosian Disruptor. Now I haven't tested it yet in PVP, hopefully tonight I can get a chance.
Still think CM/Rifle is the new FOTM.
(3rd holo says Squad Leader (carbineer and fencer will have to be dropped.
But just not right away
