Carbineer Archive
Thread: I am seriously disappointed in the Majority of Carbineers!
The DEVs won't respond to us, regardless of the garbage here. It could all be well thought out stuff, with PARAGRAPHS. They still don't give a fizzle. Our petition hitting 15 pages, with no DEV response proved that (I even promised them beer!). The best we have been able to earn is a blanket statement included with "combat fixes" to be introduced at an unkown date.
SOJ is doing as good a job than anyone out there. Better in fact. The problem does not really belong on his lap. The DEVs have ignored us and by doing so, have ignored SOJ. He could shove his way past security at their office, waving a real carbine around. Show them how effective it is supposed to be. He would only get on the 6 o'clock news. We would still be sitting on these boards with no RED names heading any post.
Lastly. I should not have to be a doctor to be effective as a carbineer. I should not have to fork out 6k for buffs from a doctor to be effective. I should not have to be a Chef to be a good carbineer. Guess what. I bought some tatooine sunburns. And after I drank the first one, my stack bugged. Couldn't get any more from it. And no, I did not have a generic house with me to deploy, enter, drop my food stack, eat from it, and then pick back up again.
The point here is this: A carbineer should be effective without all these buffs and tricks. I should not have to pull out all the stops to be "on par" with the rest of the gang. With the circus in tow, I should be an amazing carbineer.
Mostly, I am still disappointed that we have not received any response from DEVs / New PR type people / Janitors / or even midgets with a keyboard. I'm keeping my carbine skills (and continuing to progress) until our fixes come in. If the fixes suck, then I'm going pistoleer. If the fixes ROCK. Well, I'm not going to even bother saying thank you. We've waited entirely too long, and promised too much alchohol to brown nose. We deserve a response, we deserve to be fixed.
Actually, I take that back. Respond to this thread, and not only will I say thank you. But I'll Fed Ex a bottle of Bushmill's to the office. Thats right. No more bribes of watered down American beer. Its on to the good ole Irish Whiskey!

I totally agree....when life hands you lemons...make lemonade!
Now granted I am no master at (2,1,0,0), but I enjoy carbineer.I even gave up the rifle and pistol line in marksman for it. I would not go back to either one, and can do just fine on my own. Granted I can't take down a pack of Mountain Squills, but I can run around the starter planets with little fear. Yes I am also a CH and usually have a Grand Wrix, and sometimes my MT Squill out to tank for me, but if you control your special moves, and watch you HAM I don't see the problem.
I have been playing this game since day 1, and the devs are going to do what they feel is right. If you don't like it apply for a position with them or start your own company. I really love playing this game, and hate it when people constantly complain about stuff. But alas, it is human nature to bp&m!
Everyone took that be fruitful thing and multiply way too seriously!
I would love to see Carbineer issues addressed, HAM costs, broken specials, elite carbine etc.
that being said I do take a kind of Perverse pride in my profession. VERY few things in the game can kill me as fast as I can ![]()
Lasai
Carbineer 1-4-1-2, Mediocre Dancer 0-1-1-1
I pre-ordered the game and started playing the first day it came out. I worked hard and achieved master carbineer/BH carbine 1-3 and novice medic after 3 weeks.
The speed of finishing my character doesnt bother me. The really fun part of SWG is meant to take place once youve finished your character. Im rather happy its not a mindless leveling carebear playground like EQ.
The thing is that since the faction battles and combat make up the huge majority of what there is to do once our character is ready, the combat system is one of the sole factors in whether you enjoy your game or not.
Since day 1, weve had crazy HAM costs, broken specials and theyve nerfed all the cool KD stuff that is supposedly the special focus of our weapon type.
Now, I rarely play anymore solely because even though ive mastered my character, i dont have any fun when i play. I worked hard, finished my character and I feel as though ive accomplished nothing.
By now, I dont think anyone can look donw upon carbineers, weve waited as other professions got fix after fix. The core issues for us havent even been touched beyond a "Oh really? We didnt realize it was broken despite all your screaming...well look into it". Well, that was over a month ago and still no word.
No one can blame any carbineer for feeling beaten.
Carbineers not as bad as you all make it out to be, think about it you have the only non bh ranged kd, and a couple huge attacks burstshot and cripling shot.
Self incap is an issue i remeamber it well from my carbineer days, but if your enemy doesn't have armor just use a good dh17 mine was 270 max dmg the 350 with power up, youneed the laser against armor i realize that but the mind costs are low and can be lowered with power ups so novice medic and good stim b's your set.
It is disapointing that alot of the fun stuff like legshot3 doesn't seem to work right but overall you have a very effective character with carbineer, toped only by bh and sometimes commando's.
BTW as i found out you don't know anything about self kills until you play melee classes
I have tried out multiple combat professions on various servers, and despite carbineers being the most HAM intensive I have experienced, I have decided to stick with it. As a master CM / 2/3/4/2 Carbineer, *out of skill points... dont want to give up harvesting =)* My character profession combo has a great deal PVP power. One poison and a charge shot are all I really need to down almost any opponent. Charge shot may not last for more then a second on players, but its all you really need to get away from whoever may be chasing you, not to mention it stops Grauls, Rancors, Cats, etc, dead in their tracks for 3+ seconds. Our class may be HAM intensive, but even the attacks that only partially work can be very effective when applied correctly... There are ways around the broken parts of our class; food, stims,(for those of us that have taken up medic as well) spice for emergencies, and so on.
As far as PVE damage dealing goes, Crippleshot is my move of choice, even on 60% energy resistant NPCs with up to light armor, I can still manage to do 1500 - 2100damage per shot, on average, with a powered up DH17.
As far as PVP is concerned, Ive hit for up toa maximum of 1200 (with the average hit being about 300 - 500 on an armored opponent ) withthe samepowered up DH17 Carbine with cripple shot... 2.1 speed 115 - 430 damage (My opponent was knocked downand was not wearingarmor, but thats still a nice figure for PVP with an entry level wep certification)
Are we a broken profession? Yes... Are there ways around the bugs and broken moves? Yes.... are there alternatives to the broken moves? Yes.... Will I be sticking with carbineer? Yes...
The carbine class currently has the potential to eventually become the most powerful overall of the 3 primary weapon classes.... We may not be a self contained profession thus far, but I can see it being one in the future.

For the 823 time now.......we shouldnt have to PAY anyone to be able to use our specials. Nor should we have to have medic skills. I dont recall the devs saying in the manual that to use a carbine you must also pair it with medic.
I don't know why you whine all the time
. I'm just a semi finished carabineer 3/3/1/3 but I like this class a lot. Every body drops carabineer and goes pistoleer. well I was master pistoleer and dropped it to become a carabineer.
The only down fall I've noticed so far is the high miss rate( i use mostly laser ) at short ranges. But there's so many wonderful things about the class.
Laser carabine... AP 2 sweet - just like a laser rifle just faster and uses acton specials.
Area shots -when I am in group I just stay in the back and do area2 - I feel like a machine gunner - I can hit 4-5 targets for anywhere from 400-2500 - I usually hit for 1000 or so. This shot also adds stun and blind
High damage random damage shots - I love those - full auto single also adds blind and stun to the general damage. We can hit probably 2-3 times harder than pistoleer with a AP2 gun - the only advantage of the pistoleer is his targeted shots - i.e. they do health damage.
Bleeds do posture change - yes broken now so if posture change doesn't ocure bleed doesn't ocure(how do you spell that)either (or are my observations wrong?) but still - it's perfect for me since I don't have the ranged support branch of marksman.
long range KD - heh this is one of my main shots - used to do this to all the targets but now only do it to stop being chased (bleed will stop the target too)
I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with ham cost - I play on Bria - I pay 2000 for 2 docs buffs quickness and strength they last 2 hours or so - I can spam specials for 2 hours and both my action and health do not move at all.
We have Acid and Heat and Energy carabines - 3 very common vulnerabilities - actually I havent seen resistance to energy over 75% (on an at-st) most don't go over 60% which combined with AP2 makes it one of the best guns out there...
I love the class - I'll probably be so uber that I'll get bored of it ...
I want all the moves to work butI don't think any profession's specials are fully operational - I know pistoleer is really broken too and DX2 (one of the 2 AP1 guns) has pretty heavy cost so at master level with all the speed mods your ham goes just as quickly as carabineer with DX2 will ![]()
Hehe - anyway - keep whining and we can actually get fixed - we're so nerfed right now haha ![]()
Carbineer costs are out of line with other classes, although TKA specials utnil the last patch were just as bad. Now that powerboost is functional, I can usually get my action up a bit to say 1.4k, and that's enough to let me do a few bleeds on a target with my carbine and run away until they are a little more docile.
The thing is, I'd still be shooting bluecons if I didn't have the powerboost from TKA. Light blue = 1 point of carbine for me right now. Dark blue can net me up to 250. Some quick math... that means I need about 1000 dark blue con kills (or 250,000 light blue kills if I live into my nineties) to get a medium skillbox.
We're not looking to be the best solo class around, we're just trying to be able to do oh, 3 specials before we kill ourselves, with our own gun, at our optimal range, using tactics developed for our own class. Heck, the only good attacks we have as a class (I will not outline) seem to be to be borderline exploits, and I feel bad about using them.
If they're going to hose us, they could at least turn the comparison math back to a useful level so that shooting dwarf nunas gives me 50 points and I can go happily about killing 5000 of them to my next box.

I'd just like to second Lycantha's comment about the perverse pride in the profession. ![]()
I'd like to recount an experience today when my CH/rifleman friend asked me to go hunting with him.
Pet tanks, allowing me to just unload. Things are going pretty well, I'm getting a chance to use my AE and it's pretty cool. I also enjoy the fact that I know I can keep going even after my friend's mind runs out. Then conversation goes like this?
Friend : Are you under attack?
Me : Um, no? Why?
Friend : Oh. You're just taking a ton of damage.
Me : I'm a carbineer!
