Thread: Why I am not surrendering my carbine skills...
Keeping my carbine, when the skills work it will be a lot better than when half or less of the skills work I am sure.
At the same time forced grouping is BS, and it isn't like printing money. It pretty much broke Asheron's Call 2's back. They forced it and forced it until they had to start merging servers because you literally couldn't find a group of people willing to put up with the BS. The kind of grouping that keeps a game runninghappens when people have something interesting to do which is done better in a group, not when people have no choice but to become group whores. The emphasis has to be on giving people something interesting to do, not on making sure that they can't do anything at all except group.
Ooh Ooh, I'm not surrendering my skills either. I rather like my carbines. Yes, we are due some. Hopefully it will be better than twirling our guns around too.
I see a lot of people complaining about how horrible we are as a class. We are not. Even after the patch. There are a number of extremely good carbineers out there (Solito is definately one). Once all of our attack styles work as they are supposed to,the good carbineers will be GREAT. The cry babies may even become marginal combatants.
Give up your carbine skills if you want. I hear the llc and commando weapons are super hardcore these days.
Be safe, try to have fun.

You play a chef... and think we're borked? Man, even I'm not nuts enough to play a chef.
Ever heard of Tatooine Sunburn and Astro Mind shot (+150ish Mind Heal)? Couple those with Doc Buffs? Guess its not so lost after all. Next time keep your insults to yourself.
Ok, if we ARE the crowd control class, we SUCK if we can only do it every 30 seconds. Have i thought about what chargeshot2 (aoe kd) will be like WHEN they finally impliment it for OUR (it was on pistoleer for quite a long time set up as their disarm2 shot ,only removed like 2weeks ago) class.. Yes, i have thought about it and we still SUCK after those 3-5 angry mobs get up after a 3sec nap to come kill us.
Crowd control WAS supposed to be our class specific area, now that crowd control is effectively GONE, so is OUR specialty.
Im still sticking with carbineer for now since i agree, everything will be nerfed down and i dont know when it will end. But i think its pretty wrong to screw us like this since its our area of expertise and is not being replaced with anything. Coupled with our sad state of weapons and skills that STILL DONT WORK makes achieving master carbineer pretty lackluster.
A friend of mine commented that he had found out SOE's plan on addressing the 'adjustments'. It seems they are trying to make ALL classes even..... to what, well.. to dancer of course. So if your any other combat class you can expect to lose all specials until your left with /dance. =P

W00t I totally agree with the first post the Carbine is a leet tool of flesh ripping death, and I think my Laser Carbine looks more like an AK than any SMG. and my elite, would be My M4A1.
and I hope they do nerf everything until grouping is the only way to kill off big things, this is a social, game and thats the way it needs to play. And for those that gripe because they're anti social and can't stand making friends.. Well thats what faction pets are for, and dont tell me they're worthless faction pets while not tactful or intelligent, make for awesome meatshields, especially when your rank allows you to get the nicer ones.
Hope springs eternal.
I might feel good if one single change to the Carbineer class ever made them stronger rather than weaker, but so far that hasn't been the case. I only got a "buff" in the most recent patch because I bit the bullet a while back and got Novice BH, which lets me use one of the new Super-Weapons, the LLC.
Crazy: doing what you did before and expecting a different result.
What I did before: hope that a patch wouldn't weaken my Carbineer. The result: he got weaker. So, it's crazy for me to keep hoping that they're ever going to improve Carbineer.
It seems pretty clear that the trend is to make everything uniformly weaker. I see the Commando and BH LLC changes as anomalies, and I expect them to get nerfed (this expectation has met with success in the past, and so must not be crazy).
Yes, this is a multiplayer game, but that doesn't mean that grouping should be required at all times. Not everyone has the time to spend to form a group and go hunting together. When I have only two or so hours in the evening to enjoy this game, I don't always want to spend half of that time just getting a group together. I solo a lot because I don't always have the time do do more. When I do have the time, I group, and I enjoy it immensely. However, one of the main reasons I love this game and certain other MMORPGs is the community that I become a part of, regardless of whether I am grouping with them all the time. Forcing players to group if they want any chance of survival is excessive, and unnecessary. Becoming a part of the game community does not require grouping. Solo players still interact and communicate with others, just not so much when it comes to grouping for hunts or missions. Is that so bad?

Do you ever get the feeling you'rein the wrong place?
No, seriously. This is a multiplayer game, by both definition and design. If you don't like most people, this game isn't really designed for you - and most MMOGs aren't. They view grouping as a good dynamic, from a design standpoint... because it promotes a community that will make the game last longer. In other words, having groups keeps people paying. This makes good business sense - and you're going to see this philosophy reflected here. Count on it.
Greets ...
I agree with the post ... the reality is that this game will not be balanced for 3-4 more months. Holo has said it over and over again ... it takes 6 months to balance the game.
So ... they are working on lots of things. This last pass was not a "Buff the Commando's / Bounty Hunters" pass ... most of you twits didn't realize it was a "make heavy weapons uber" pass. They needed it ... the "heavy weapons" were more Panzie fodder ... might as well wear pink leotards and play Sugar Plum Fairy then use a Heavy Weapon before the patch.
You guys want to quit this class ... go for it ... most of you are just pimple faced dimwitted over-reactionary twits anyways.
"But I want an Oomp-a-Loompa NOW!!!"
Carbineer's have a design creedo that the Dev's will make sure is working before they are done ... we have are place in the game and they will make us fit that place.
We are the machine guns of SWG ... they are not going to let that drop ... they are not finished with us yet ... they have not even given us a proper pass yet. You want to quit before we get our pass ... go for it ... just make me and my carbine more *desirable* in the future.
You want to solo the game? Go buy NWN or IceWind or Morrow ... but SWG is a MMO for a reason. You want to solo creatures? sure ... stay on a starter planet and go solo all you want ... but you better get a Pet and a Droid to tank for you ... cause in *this* game "tanks" are built into the design specs.
Anyways ... enough rantings ... the poster is right ... Carbinees will have their day ... just wait till they tweak the elite to be *elite* ... and fix our moves ... and actually make us fit into things.
As a matter of fact I am *glad* they have not done our pass yet. The longer they wait, the more *finished* our class will be in the end cause they will have to make us as strong as the other class's.

grouping should not be required to accomplish things
grouping should make things EASIER and more beneficial (i.e. better experience incentives) in order to accomplish things.
Once again i find myself in between in this arguement, i agree to sticking with carbine. I have been levelling combat medic and i chosea carbine as my weapon of choice. Why? for similar reasons to the original poster as it happens, e11 in the jedi outcast game was cool, stormtroopers are cool though i am a rebel and in fps games i always play machine gun based classes and this is the closest thing. Who cares about accuracy, when you can merely mow ppl down in a torrent of gunfire right? Not to mention the obvious thing that everyone seems to be forgetting....one of our tiitls is mercenary?? how cool is that??
I do agree also, you could jump ship on this profession, only for this to be fixed next week. Look at it this way, many of the commandos tools were broken, a few days ago and now they are very powerful, it changes that quickly. I've personally always beenone to be different, if everyone else is doing things one way, i'll do it another. I love the fact carbineers aren't popular, everyone and their grandmother wants to be a bounty hunter, a pistoleer, a creature handler, let them. It just shows a lack of imagination and wanting to win so bad, that you just take the easy route offollowing a mapped out template for you.
In a group fight, when this gun is fixed, whilst we may not be the one to finsh ppl off we certainly will inflict the most damage on a group. That is what we are about, yes it is a bit broken right now, but it is a waiting game and when it comes, we are useful.
On the social aspects of the game, i can certainly see both sides. Yes grouping is by far the most fun you can have in this game. That is why i chose combat medic, i could group with my mates and help keep them alive long enough to accomplish a goal. But on the other side, there is times when groups aren't easy to find, if your trying to do one thing and sometimes you do just have to fight on your own in a scenario. Lets not beat around the bush either, there are some nuts, children, whiners and general arses playing too. There has been a number of times when i have grouped, only to find one of the group is a **edit** who thinks cos he is in a group he can take anything. The next thing you know your all slain by some ridiculously large creature that is out of your league. Either that or someone whining over skill points or hides or which tactics to use etc.
As an added side not for the power player up there, this isn't the game for you. There is no uber loot, there is a hard cap to levelling, this game is pro groups. The days of Everquest where it was just a huge geek heirarchy, with some asshats playing 16 hours a day just to be the bestest, won't hold ground here. Yes if you play more you'll level faster, but eventually everyone will catch you up and you will be so bored by then you may quit. So what do you do when you level, that's up to you, you can either take your character and enter it into the war, gain faction toys like bases and try not to lose them.Or you can be a member of a pa and eventually run your own city/community. I have no doubt, that eventually smuggling groups will take off and jabba's faction also to add some spice(no pun intended).
