Dont use any AOEs unless you know you can handle them, and try not to pull mobs that mass aggro when they are near each other. Nightsisters do that a lot, but they wont if you are carefull about it.

I have found if you are pulling from a group of creatures that are aggro and assist each other using a very low damage special works nicely. When I was dabbling pistoleer I could run right up and do this with no problem as long as I didn't hang around and didn't use my more damaging specials til the mob was away from the main group.
