Dots are what make most *would be* pvp'ers into pve'ers. Due to the fact that even if you have medic you will die since most dots that are used are mind dots that cant be healed unless you are CM or jedi. even jedi can have a tough time vs dots. I have personally felt the power of dots even with my jedi. I dueled aM swordsman/CM his 600 tic mind poison and head hit took my force down fast (about 20 seconds till 1/3 force). Most dots outside of CM are minimal and therefore give only a small advantage. But to the CM that can kill you without ever hitting you himself I say nerf nerf nerf
uhmmm.... that's how Cm's hit you is with dots, the only weps they are certed for is wooden stafs, stone knives, CEDF'sD18 pistol DH-17 carbine and dlt20 rifle,,,,

You do realize that Combat Medic's don't throw fire right?
And I totally agree that uber dots have kept me away from most PvP. Last time I got hit by a dot rifle wielding pikeman. Before I knew it I had like 4 dots hitting my mind.

No, they don't, but it's not everyday you run into a 400-mind fire weapon, either. CMs, on the other hand, can easily toss 500+ tick poisons effortlessly, and can easily reach 1k ticks if they stack it. Some don't even need to stack to throw a 1k tick poison.. spider venom is a most nasty thing.
The typical 200ish fires and poisons from DoT weapons are petty compared to what PvP used to boil down to, ie, CMs and Riflemen when no stun armor was available. Luckily, their dominance in PvP has been reduced, and DoTs are a lot more manageable now than before.
Besides, those who complain about DoTs in PvP are generally those who hang onto the old-school belief that a small 2 to 3 -man squad should be able to tear up any opposition and control the streets of Theed and Cnet. But this is not so. Blame it on Jedi, blame it on DoTs, blame it on a lack of skill, whatever. PvP has now shifted to a game of masses with gank squads fighting gank squads.. sabers clasing against other sabers.. and the regular professions are simply "support" roles compared to those that dish it out with the crazy poisons/fires and saber dervishes.
But that's the way it is, atleast until Revamp hits.. who knows what will dominate PvP then. Hopefully Carbineers will be able to compete a bit better without the use of DoTs or crazy Krayt Lasers, because regardless of what any BH/Carbineer or Carbineer/Stacker comes and tells me on the board, it's still near-impossible to play an active role in PvP as a Carbineer without considerable investment in equipment. I PvP as a Carbineer everyday (luckily, our server is blessed with several suicidal rebels.. heh) and I know that were it not for the millions I've spent in gear, I'd simply be reduced to a state-inducing machine. Big deal. A Squad Leader will remove my two most crucial states..
On the other hand, team up with a good smart doctor, or two, or three.. and DoTs become insignificant, regardless of where they stem from. Any excuse towards not participating in PvP because of DoTs, I find, is a bit foolish and narrow-sighted (no offense to anyone.) It'd be like saying you don't Roleplay in Galaxies because you don't like Star Wars and you think the SW EU is for geeks. Okay, fine. At the end of the day, you're still playing an MMO that's centered in the Star Wars universe, and while its quite possible to RP a non-SW based character (just like you can PvP without DoTs), let's face it: you're missing out on an integral part of the game!
And hey, the way I see it, you can either fight metal with metal or not fight at all. :/Message Edited by AdmiralSpy on 03-28-2005 12:46 PM

In some of the latest posts, you can see that they say that ALL weapons with DoTs are being removed....

No kidding. Ah well, CM's will still be spoiling PvP from server to server at least.
