Thread: My New Take on Carbineer
ok, I just hit master last friday night, and after quite a few PvP and PvE events since then, I have a completely new take on Carbineer. the PvP I participated in was not due to faction or anything like, merely a bunch the militia members of my PAs player city (myself included) playing around with /citywarn. I laughed harder than I had in 4 months.
Well, i'm certainly not a stubborn person, so I can easily change my views. At master, Carbineer is one kickass class. i incapped (multiple times) 2 eyeshot spamming BHs, 1 master commando, one commando/CH and one Master Combat Medic. Myself getting incapped was infrequent compared to the many times i got them
. but its still not all it should be.
for one, i was shooting much slower than they were, about 3 shots to the BHs every 10, and about the same rate as the Commandos. Our Ranged KD is indeed the single greatest thing about carbineer. it is awesome, and i mean AWESOME. a chargeshot followed by a cripplingshot is enough to take the best of combatants down or at least hurt them significantly. And with the boost to counterattack, i find myself taking less and less damage. Once damage mitigation hits live, the Masters will be even better.
As for PvE, well my damage output is not significantly increased, due to a) lack of speed mods, b)lack of a special at master c)lack of a consistently damaging carbine andd)lack of specials such as Burstshot2 that actually work, but HAM costs are no longer that much of a problem to me, even without buffs. In fact, against NPCs such as teh FS NPCs i regularly hunt on dantooine, i survive much longe in single combat due to counterattack. this makes it much easier to have my pets take the agro from me.
So, at master, carbineer is a wonderful profession, despite the speed problem and the broken specials. we truly are unequaled in the use of carbines. BUT, below master, carbineer is one **edit**ty profession, with the need to stay constantly buffed in order to do anything or get anywhere. Carbines need a serious pickup in order to help the novices and those who haven't quite made it and don't know how badass master is, and therefore think about quitting which just aggravates the situation.
In conclusion, if yer a master, you are pretty **edit** kickass despite all the bad stuff. while i'm not quite sure we could compete with a master pistoleer (havent tried yet) i'm pretty sure we'd give em a run for their money at the very least. If you aren't a master, boy do you have it bad. i'm glad i'm finally on the other side of the fence, but keep climbing, you'll be glad you stuck with it once you get here. I sure am.
btw, this is most definetely not a post saying we don't need fixes. we need them. we still arent performing on a level with the other combat professions, and anything below master and without BH really isn't up to anything the equivalent in the other ranged combat professions could do. pistoleers asking for duel-wield,while we haven't even had a single one of our broken specials or even our goddamn mispelled title fixed is just wrong. seriously, SOMEONE has to realize that we aren't up to snuff
ok, what's the deal with anti food/spice. food/spice is as common as weaponsmith now, they are cheap and efficient, even pistoleer take food when using their special, they don't need it as much, but they still take it same as rifleman.
I just don't get what's the big deal on usinig food, with just a little money, you can have 2k in str/quick/foc every single minute. it's so easy just post on forum asking who the best chef, and order some foods from him/her, pick it up, and carry it around with you, soooo easy, no need to hassel with doctors at all.
well even if they did lower the ham, I would still be taking food and because unless they drop the ham cost to 20 which I doubt they would, I hate losing my ham over nothing.
Its just that I don't think I should _need_ it to be viable. I should need it to be SUPERIOR, but not to be effective. Don't get me wrong, either. I do use spice and food when I can.
I'm not so sure that i agree Chef buffs are super common place. Should have seen Ypiana's post offering up a small briefcase of credits for her combo of foods on the Starsider forums. The biggest proponent to date of BOH and the cake thingies was having trouble finding them. Though, I think her take on it was more: They are popular now because they work, thus a good supply is hard to find.
For what it is worth, Ypiana killed me twice the day after that post. She used a pistol both times
Good sport she is though, ain't no thang to me. If the players are decent, I often enjoy being killed as much as killing.
Also, for the longest time, when we were being told to use foods like Tattoine sunburns, etc. Food stacks were BUGGED. The only workaround to unbug them (that I am aware of) was to drop them in a place you had admin rights to, eat one from the stack, then pick it back up. IE, carrying a generic house around just in case.
On top of that, I think they should last a little bit longer. Not Doc buff duration, just somewhat longer.
Like I said. For me it really comes down to HAVING to have the food, doc, or BH carbine to be effective. Ever since I dropped CH, I have noit been the most succesful credit farmer. 5k to me is a fair chunk of change. Not earth shattering, but little chunk. To a lot of people it is nothing. Of course the answer is to grind credits harder. The more I grind credits, however, the less time I have to PvP, social with my PA (and officer duties) and so on. Maybe the _root_ of it is the forced grind?
I appreciate your nice way of asking. **edit** carbineers. Doing too many nice things today. Someone insult me please, so I can go back to being a bitter tool! ![]()
breath of heaven last 5 minute, it fill up almost 4/5 of your drink bar.
I dueled a BH and I can win against eyeshot, that's about all. I'm only about 20% better than a novice carbineer with burstshot, and I'm a frigging master.
Yesterday alone I died to three, did you hear me, three Rebels with BH carbine. Fireknockdown will completely own any carbineer out there. Don't even go up the stupid carbine tree, I have yet to counterattack in PVP but twice I believe, and all of BH carbine's moves are better. (Plus you can actually hit the speed cap)
