I just became a Master Carbineer on Sunrunner last night. Master Carbineer was a holo for me. Now I want to try a new ranged profession. I was not impressed with Carbineer. What is the best ranged profession for someone who mainly plays PVE?

Carbineer.... HO! I have no idea which range profession is the best at pve. I started off Master Commando and picked up Carbineer a few months after launch. Most of the things worth hunting for loot are kinda 100% resists towards your wide selection of Carbineers /bah. Blast damage is king of pve, so probly better off with swordman if you plan on going to war with the mobs.

Well I hate to break it to you, but Carbineer is the best Ranged PvE profession. Rifleman deals more damage but can't handle anything close so I guess it depends on the presence of a decent kinetic tank. Although none are strong compared to Melee in PvE unless you have CH, which I did and it was uber

Carbineer is.

Seriously, it entirely depends on what you are doing? Are you soloing or grouped? What are you hunting? Do you have unlimited access to buffs?

However, the stock answer to "What is the best" currently is riflemen. However, many (including most here) don't like playing riflemen for a variety of reasons. I would recommend just trying all of them out and seeing which you like best, and ignore which is "the best".

I've gone from master carbineer to trying rifle. With carbineer you can run around shooting and this works fine - even up close is not too bad. Rifle is a very different style of play as it works best if you can avoid moving or the mob running up to you. With a melee friend or a good combat droid to keep a creature occupied (LE Repair are tough and enter into melee so they are a good choice) you can manage to do fine with a rifle - either that or just hope you can take them out at range before they see where you are hiding (seems to work best on NPCs rather than creatures due to posture changes/dizzy). I suppose if you liked using a Laser Carbine at long range or working in support ofa friend then rifle is a good choice.

If you prefer more frenetic style of playthen pistoleer is maybe better.

When I was a rifleman, I could run around in circles doing cartwheels pointblank and I wouldn't miss much. They get 160 rifle accuracy. Trust me, you dont need to do anything cept get some 80% PvE Composite armor, Stocked T21, Brandy, and nothing will stop you unless it has 100% resist to you. We're talking like 3500 raw DPS, pre-AP from a good T21 using strafeshot. For comparision, my 130-550 Laser Carbine does 2500 DPS with crippleshot when I'm speedcapped with BH. Strafeshot is AoE also. Going from Rifleman from launch till about 2 months agoto Carbineer, I significantly reduced my power. I took everything for granted when I was one, and without my T21, concealshot, strafeshot, I was hurting. Don't let anyone fool you, Rifleman is pure uberness. After combat rebalance hopefully it will change, but there is no mistaking rifleman's greatness.
