Ehmm..Nym's Slugthrower is one of the better ones, if you can get him to give you a decent one. Mission is pretty easy as well.

The Bola Bothan Carbine is excellent as a quest reward. If you are a BH, the Proton Carbine is also very respectable. The Nyms is a great weapon simply because it is Kinetic/Elemental damage. This makes it better suited for PvP in many cases than either the BH or the Proton.

Many people also like the Blackscale Hallsweeper as a kinetic alternative to the Nyms. It fires blue bolts and sounds a lot cooler than the Nyms. It is a very respectable carbine, but in all honesty it simply can not compete with the Nyms when it comes to PvP. In PvE however, the Blackscale is a very powerful weapon.

These are only my opinions, and if you happen to be a big Blackscale Hallsweeper fan, please dont take this personally

One more thought: You might want to refrain from evaluating weapons based on DPS alone. The entire DPS system is actually flawed and inaccurate, and the majority of the Ranged profession forums have abandoned it almost entirely when discussing weapons. I won't go into an explanation now, but the general concept that you should keep in mind is that DPS is not the most important statistic to look at on a weapon.

Elemental damage was fixed two patches ago I believe, and the previous poster's advice about DPS is accurate. Don't rely on what you see in the windows when it comes to DPS, you want to worry about SAC, Speed and Min/Max damage.

Drops from mobs on the Avatar Platform and the Trandoshan house in Keren. It may drop in the Blackscale Compound though I learned the hard way that it's not a good idea to loot in there

Be careful though..it's a mess if you aren't prepared, and the respawn rate is fairly high. Easy to get yourself killed if you aren't cautious.

Actually, min damage doesn't matter either. Weapons no longer do a range of damage, they always hit for the max.
