very nice post. since bh/carb (of which i dropped BH and have tried many other things w/ carb) was my first choice at launch and i've been here for the duration...all these points seem to sum up the inherent problems w/ carbineer in pve/pvp. i like the blunt (simple) solutions you laid out...hopefully someone will see some/most as doable.

i've never heard of this solution...which would be very nice indeed...stop the regen 'til they hit it w/ /firstaid or they're just stuck using stims 'til the bleed runs its course...losing the benefit of their 2500-3000 stamina would be a welcome change in PVP. might actually start using legshot in such a case...

I've read alot of different forums deciding where I should place myself in the SWG population, and if carbs in general weren't a good enough reason already, having the best correspondant on any board definitely is. Thanks so much Nova. I do appreciate your work, even for this here novice carbineer.

The real answers to the real questions of concerns in Carbineer...these should help the Devs in planning and fixing Carbineer.

More speed, more DPS, and more defenses, as well as more damage types should bring us in line with the other ranged profs.

Thanks Nova

Superb! Hit the nail right on the head.

I am truly blessed to be a member of 2 proffesions that, in my opinion, have the 2 best correspndants in the game.

Excellent list of issues Nova.

Although my own thought regarding the PvP issue is that the regeneration given by Doc buffs is simply too powerful (in PvE as well). Unless it is an intention that buffed people are ONLY ever taken down by the mind pool the regen rate must be addressed in the combat balance (prepares for flame for this idea).

In the last few months on group play with our regular Dok in the group mind is the only pool that ever results in people being taken down - and our Dok never even has to heal anything other than state effects (or the occaisonal after battle wound).

I just sent this along to both the Combat Developer and Thunderheart.

***keep your fingers crossed***

This is a list of the most important pains of the Carbineer profession. Right now the class is nothing more than a support class that must be combined with other professions in order to gain even the basic usefulness of other single professions. However, with a bit of Developer attention on a few key points I feel the class could pull even with the other elite combat classes.

1. HAM Costs.

The HAM costs for the various carbine specials are so high that the carbineer skills cannot be effectively used in combat without doctor buffs, extensive food use or heavy investment into medical skills.

Solution: Lower the HAM costs to bring them in line with other classes

2. Carbine speed

Currently carbineer has +60 at master and as a result, carbines are the slowest of the ranged elite professions. This makes it difficult to contribute to a group in PvE because other classes are firing faster thus doing more damage. It also makes engaging in PvP largely futile. The low speed of the class forces players to either accept it, spend millions on speed enhancing tapes or spend all of their remaining points to add bounty hunter for more speed.

Solution: A little speed goes a long way. Bringing the class up to +75 speed at master would help infinitely.

3. Carbine Selection

Carbineers only have available energy, acid and heat. These are incredibly common resists in both PvE and PvP. Many high-end targets (for example, certain nightsisters) cannot even be damaged by carbineers meaning they are unable to participate in certain high-end content. It is highly unfair that this profession is unable to participate in certain content.

Solution: Increase selection of carbine damage types beyond the most common resists so that carbineers can be effective in both PvE and PvP.

4. Defenses

Carbineers lag behind other elite classes in defenses. Even melee classes typically have more range defense than carbineers. The class has many AoE/cone specials which draw significant attention to the player. Without sufficient defenses, these skills are more suicidal than practical. In addition, it has recently come to light that counterattack is not working properly.

Solution: Fix counterattack.
Solution: Increase range defense.
Solution: Increase resistance to states including stun and blind.

5. PvP Issues

Without the ability to target mind, carbineers must attack either action or health. The issue here is that after the 75% PvP reduction, range mitigation and composite armor, the damage applied to the target is so minimal that targets with doctor buffs (99.9% of targets are buffed) will just regen the health or action back almost as fast as it is applied. In the event some damage does accumulate, the target can just use a Stim to heal the damage. In essence, the combination of damage reduction, doctor buffs and stims means that a target can regen and/or heal damage faster than it can be applied by a Carbineer. The reasons for this include inability to hit the mind pool, low speed (Issue #2) and carbine damage selection (armors in the game are very effective at stopping energy, heat and acid - Issue #3).

Solution: Increase carbine damage
Solution: Increase the AP1 on the elite carbine to AP2 (the elite carbine is the best choice of carbines for PvP yet lags far behind the AP3 T21)
Solution: Increase speed so that carbineers can apply damage faster to overcome healing and regeneration
Solution: Provide a carbine with a damage type that is not easily absorbed by current armors
Solution: Many of the above

Alternate Solution: Adjust bleeds so that a bleeding target no longer regenerates in the pool that is bleeding. This would have the side benefit of helping other classes that have similar issues in PvP such as Pistoleers.
