Thread: Merchant changes and us.

I am concerned that the proposed Merchant changes will hit the Carbineers by making well-crafted carbines rare. As such, I did a bit of research and offered this info the Devs:

Clearly, Merchant is pretty far away from Carbineer. However, the proposed merchant changes could have the side-effect of making items that arenot big sellers rare as crafters reserve precious vendor space for quick selling items. Carbines could be considered a low seller so I contacted the 12-point weaponsmiths on Wanderhome and asked them 5 questions to gauge how this change would affect them because it ultimately affects Carbineers.

1. Are you currently a merchant? What level?

WS A: Used to be 3-0-0-4 but I have dropped the skills while grinding out a new combat profession.
WS B: I am a 0-0-4-0 (I think that is the vendor line) Merchant.
WS C: I am at Master Merchant, Master Artisan, Master Weaponsmith
WS D: (no answer provided)
WS E: Yes 0/0/1/1
WS F: Master Merchant

2. Are you planning to pick up merchant?

WS A: Yes
WS B: I am a 0-0-4-0 (I think that is the vendor line) Merchant.
WS C: Already Master Merchant
WS D: (no answer provided)
WS E: I was Novice Merchant and am now going to head for Master Merchant as a result of the changes.
WS F: Already Master Merchant

3. Are you planning to sell through a merchant friend or alt?

WS A: If someone is willing to be a reseller I would do it. But have offered that in the past and never got anyone

interested.
WS B: (no answer provided)
WS C: (no answer provided)
WS D: (no answer provided)
WS E: I'll be selling through my own vendors primarily as the current system makes selling through other people unreliable.
WS F: Not likely.

4. Do you plan to continue selling low volume weapons such as some carbines?

WS A: Yes, but some might only be stocked in low quanties
WS B: (no answer provided)
WS C: (no answer provided)
WS D: (no answer provided)
WS E: The most honest answer I can give you is that my vendors will be stocked with those items I know I can sell and that I can make the best.
WS F: It would be very hard to give carbines any space on the vendor. I guess as you are aware, carbines are one of the slowest sellers. I think only beaten by pike.

5. Do you plan to drop crafting?

WS A: No, not at this point. But if SOE continue to make life harder and more boring for crafters I might.
WS B: If the current changes go live with the proposed numbers me and Bermag have a plan to continue our sales as they are. The only issue will be the location. We will be consolidated.
WS C: I am planning to drop weaponsmith and merchant as a whole.
WS D: simply answer i will quit
WS E: No.
WS F: Drop, no. Go private crafting for myself and a few friends, very possible.

I just want to point out that WS A and B are a team. They share a 12-point crafting suit, factories, resources, harvestors, etc. However, one has a shop on Corellia and one on Naboo. Weaponsmith A added these comments:

.....There are two ways to deal with this (if it go through). One is to quit the other is to adopt. My first reaction was "I quit". But on second thoughts I find a good solution for this. Now I and Siymon is running two locations of vendors bith having about same stuff. What we could do is to put all our vendors (for both of our characters in one location). Then we would divide weapons on the various vendors.

This change will actually make us stronger than before. other ws will nto be able to do that at leats not if they don't get an extra alt for another merchant.

So much for making a change to "fix ecomomy" and break up "monopolies"....

I wasn't sure where to stand when I heard about the complaints about the upcoming Merchant nerf. It worries me more now as I understand more.

And Pikes outselling Carbines? I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry with that bit of information.

What sucks is that my two favorite professions, Commando and Carbineer, will seem to be smacked hard. I can tell you that Weaponsmiths hate crafting Commando heavy weapons (not counting Flamethrower). Even in the current setup, it's harder to find a Weaponsmith selling a good selection of Carbines and Commando weaponry. If the changes go live, it'll be even harder and I would have to resort to Custom Orders more frequently with higher fees.

If this goes live I will be really happy that my main char isa MWS, cause items that rarely sell will be by request only.

I think the player meant that pikes beat carbines in the slowest selling category. In other words, the only weapons selling slower than carbines are pikes. In either case, I can see carbines, especially the higher end ones, becoming near impossible to find without having to seek out a weaponsmith and cutom order it.

He is happy that he has a MWS alt...? So that he can make his own weapons.

Yo, Nova, add me on there as WS G.

1: I'm currently a Novice Merchant, purely so I can have a second vendor in a second location (on Talus, primary is on Naboo).

2: No, I don't want any more Merchant than I have. It's a waste of Skillpoints.

3: I don't have any Merchant friends. I don't know anyone who is willing to pay 250k up front for a crate of Vibroknucklers, bar the occasional TK looking for the best slice. As it stands, there is no way for consignment sales to work, so selling via someone else isn't really feasible.

4. Not as such, no. With the suggested limits, I will be limited to a crappy 60 weapons per vendor. I can make over 80 different weapons. I will stock 1 of each, priced at 99999999 with a sales note saying "if you want a weapon, mail me. I'll add you to the list."

5. No. Vendor sales account for maybe 1% of my income. Most of my money is derived from custom builds, or auctions on the Trade Forum. The Vendors are there to supply 'standard' weapons to the players. Don't misunderstand, I DO make money from vendors, but compared to 3.6mil from a singleauction of 7 scythes, what's a couple hundred K a week from the vendors?

Don't forget an additional point:

Not only will I stock less, but it will be much MUCH more difficult for me to find the resources I need to make my weapons. As such, you (as the purchasers) can expect: A drop in weapon quality, an increase in prices, and a re-occurance of "Pre-Nerf Weapon for sale!" stuff around. Not immediately, of course, these are the long-term repercussions that I expect to see.

I'm sure this wont affect most carbineers, as alot of you guys buy custom weapons, but on Lowca, this will completely mess me up. I know and regularly use two weaponsmiths on Lowca, both who make and stock carbines on their vendors, and they do them exactly how I'd request them custom made. Experimented for the perfect balance of damage and accuracy (speed isnt an issue since I picked up BH), and I can always go to their vendors and expect to find precisely what I'm looking for, without fail. With the proposed changes, I dont think I'm going to be able to do that anymore because of the limit. I'm one of maybe thirty people I've seen since I started playing, (over a year ago) using carbines, so theyre definitely gonna fall off of these vendors once the changes happen.

I hate ta break it to you, but with the currently proposed limit, ***every*** weapon I make will be a 'custom' weapon.

Where am I going to store crates of weapons?

cant you store like a ton of stuff in factories? i mean if no one is buying alot of stuff why make it in the first place unless its customized.

Only a former master merchant, but yeah this screws crafters incredibly bad. Right now, have to manage resources + components, often through multiple houses/factories, now just add final products to all those crates since they won't fit on the vendor.

I quit crafting as a doc because the subcomponent crates were rediculous to keep track off, now just add more crates to track before they can fit on vendor... yay!

Devs just make it more of a JOB to play this game. As a former crafter I'm -predicting- a major exodus after this. I'm included, not going to play a game that just punishes the people that make my weapons/armor/food/meds.
