Hello all carbineers, Im a master commando/rogue/novice medic. Im looking for a change of pace something new. I have yet to try carbineer. I have 46 skill points left and I was going to get carbineer 4304 to mix things up a bit. Plus I really love the mercenary title, I think it fits my character. Thx for all your help.

Simple answer, if you don't seem to be enjoying carbine's then i would drop the skills before you waste too much time. But in response to your question about the BH/Carbtemplate i would say it is a fairly useful template. Personally I am a ranger/carb and if it wasnt for the fact i love being a ranger, i would pick up the BH carb tree. I notice in PvE, i usually put out about 3/4 the damage of the the uber combat proffessions, but my speed sucks, so if i had my speed capped i think i would be at the very least on par for damage with TKA's and Rifleman. And with the upcoming patch carbs will get the boost they so desperately deserve

I would recommend you pickup some speed before giving up hope, but Carbineer is a very difficult profession to dabble in without BH Carbs because the mods are so low compared to other professions.

I paired Master Carbineer with Master CH and it is quite a combo for PvE.

There are also some big changes in the works with bug fixes this next patch. Full Auto Area + Charge Shot 2 + Burst 2 will deal ALOT of damage, even at slower firing rates.

One of the things I have learned with pikeman is that you can keep someone on the ground if you dizzy them before they get all the way up, so maybe you would do something like FAA2; chargeshot2; FAA2; Burst2; Burst2; etc.

Hey guys,

I have only recently started working on the ranged professions and was wondering if someone could give me a little insight into the Carbineer profession. I have Marksman 4/4/4/4 and Novice Rifleman, but it wouldn't take me very long to hit Novice Carbineer on Dantooine... How do you like the profession? What would you say some of its advantages and disadvantages are? Everyone I talk to seems to say that rifleman is better but I had a lot of fun getting to Carbines IV in the marksman tree so I thought I'd ask the experts: people who are actually Carbineers.

Thanks a lot!

Don't take this the wrong way, but answers to those questions are lengthy and already covered on this Forum. Please read the posts.....

Carbines are very fun. They require alot of tactic and quick thinking. Carbineer is more of a support class, applying states and controling a crowd. We can do decent damage but obviously, like other have told you, riflemen is better at dealing damage. IMO riflemen is WAY overpowered now. It is my guess that after the combat rebalance they wont be 'better' than a carbineer. They will still have there advantages over carbineers, but hopefully then carbineers will have advantages over them. As it is now with riflemen, once you hit master you will automatically be good. However with carbineer, when you hit master you will be good, but you must continue to strive for excellance. That is one reason why I like carbineer.

My favorite thing about carbines is the ability to control crowds. We have alot of group state shots (ie. stun, blind and dizzy) and also posture change attacks to slow your charging enemies (ie. chargeshot2, suppressionfire, and actionShot2).

TAfirehawk: Indeed I have, I should have made my questions clearer. What I was looking for were more of a personal opinion coupled with perhaps some experiences as a carbineer that the members have had, whether positive or negative.

Lihpson: Thanks for the info.

There are a lot of very fine comments and details provided by quite a few people on this forum. I doubt you get even half of them to repeat themselves here.

As most people know me around here, I am being as kind as possible. Read the first page, maybe even the second page and you will have a strong grasp of Carbineer......pay special attention to the STICKY posts too.

Nova even has a specific post on the Advantages and Disadvantages that people put in list form with comments......now go read the damn posts.....

Hrm...I'll test out part of the faq....

Advantages:

Excellent variety of specials with equally great utility.

All of the Carbineer specials but maybe one or two have a useful purpose.

Numerous state attacks which are very important both in PvE and PvP.

Wide selection of area effect attacks.

Access to one of the best all-around weapons in the game: laser carbine.

Awesome titles. Perhaps some of the best in the game.

Disadvantages:

Terrible HAM costs.

Slowest of the 3 ranged classes.

Damage types available (energy, acid and heat) are common and highly resisted. Many high-end targets are immune to these damage types.

State effects are not applied to high-end mobs removing any distinction or contribution to high-end content.

Low defenses. Among the worst of the elite combat classes.

Main defensive skill, counterattack, is broken.

Very poor PvP performance because of low damage, slow speed, high HAM, and easily resisted damage types.

It is further along than you think

It just needs a bit more proofreading editting and the carbineer templates. Though, I might just put the templates in a seperate FAQ.
