Figured I'd ask my fellow carbineers. How high is your counterattack and does it work fairly well? Better when wielding a carbine, or a sword?

Much better when wielding a Sword. Much much better.
A Carbineer's Counterattack is at: 105
A Swordsman's Counterattack is at: 100
So there's not too much difference in terms of actual points, but there's a world of a difference in terms of usefulness. Counterattack for Carbineers seems "broken" (check the FAQ, there's a section on it.)
I'm capped at 125 (+20 in SEAs) and I notice little difference, while a capped swordsman with CoB would be counterattacking a lot.

Well that's a bummer.

Sucks for us, but that isn't comparing Apples to Apples.....
I haven't played Swordsman yet but the reports are that without CoB they Counterattack more.....but I don't believe those reports, or any until I can prove it from my own experience or well documented info.

Counterattack does work fairly well on low level stuff, but when comparing Dodge from a Master Pistoleer with Counterattack from a Master Carbineer you will find on identical targets that Dodge occurs twice as often as Counterattack for their respective people.
The frequency is the complaint because it does function.....sorry no data on Swordsman here.

A lot more. There's several Swordsmen in my guild, and I have access to three seperate 'PvE' accounts.. Doc/Swords.. stacked/Swords, etc.
Even with CoB, Counterattacking is somewhat comparable to the dodge rate of a fencer or pistoleer. Capped with CoB, it's insane. INSANE! Not as bad as a capped Fencer with Pikatta pie.. but darn close.

i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure swordsmen get 110 counter at master and that CoB only affects ranged and melee defense.

Yeah, swordsman gets 110 at master. It works alot more than carbineers counterattack, even without CoB... really, i have master swordsman at the moment.
As far as i know CoB only affects only Counterattack/Dodge/Block... not sure about state/melee/ranged defense though, but it works for Counterattack/Dodge/Block definitely.

CoB only affect secondary defenses, Block/Counterattack/Dodge

i'm taking a break till the combat revamp and if carbineer is able to finally hunt high lvl mobs i might add master carbineer to my swordsman since they lack states and a true KD

Well grouping will be required to hunt high level content and probably most medium level content....but that has yet to be decided from our testing yet.
Of course even in a group now we can't do sh!t
But I will be working my arse off to make sure we can at least scratch every single thing in SWG ![]()

CoB does set the secondary rolls off by a huge margin. I've never had one character a swordsman and one a carbineer at the same time, but I have had one that was a pistoleer with capped dodge (+125) and one that had a few boxes in fencer. I don't have any hard numbers, but my impression was that the fencer on CoB was dodging a heck of a lot more than the pistoleer, despite the fact that the pistoleer had twice the dodge mod.
I really wish they'd have made CoB like tumbling, where special attacks cannot be used while it's active. It would have gone a long way towards balancing ranged and melee. I guess we just have to live with it until the CU.
