Thread: Carbineer Speed Improved Publish 7?

Is the carbine speed on test server for a master carbineer the same as it is now? If so why wasnt it changed along with the other fixes/changes to our proffession? Since a master carbineer has to be taped upto the nines or have a very very nice krayt stocked carbine to even get close to the speed cap with certain specials. I find it quite difficult to belive that the developers think its perfectly alright for a rifleman with a 5-6 sec or so jawa ion rifle to hit the cap with most of their specials and a carbineer with a 2.7 laser rifle is still a long way off. Dont get me wrong here the specials fixes are great but I sometimes wonder how often they consider the big picture.

FYI Master Riflemen don't cap speed on all specialsat 1.0 on a 5-6 speed jawa, much less a 7-8 speed T21. With a 5.0 speed jawa they will cap speed on7 specials, 6.0 speed jawa will cap only 1 (HS1), with my 5.7 and no speed tape mods I only cap 2 specials (HS1 and HS2). With a 7-8 sec T21 the only thing riflemen will cap is autofire.


Granted even at a speed of 8, our slowest special (strafe 2) is still firing at 2.8sec, and due to the exponential damage growth in relation to speed, speed tapes and master marksman help us quite a bit more than the other classes.


Even with 90 speed though to get all special shots down to the 1.0 cap your gun needs to be a delay of no more than 3.0

But a strict Master Carbineer at +60 Carbine Speed fires the main specials (slowest ones) at the weapon speed......things that make you go hmmmmmm



But it is really about DPS, not min/max or attack speed.

I'm not saying you guys don't need more speed, I just don't think you need 90. Using the 2.7 speed laser carbine in the example above and the SWG DPS calculator I figure a speed of 75 would be much more inline for you all, with 15-20 of this speed coming at master. What's odd is pistoleers have more speed than you, and faster guns... /shrug. Also if you give carbineers more speed, they might have to change the BH line up a bit, moving the +20 in bounty carbine spec 3 up to bounty spec carbine 4, although by that point you're pushing 100 speed anyway so it doesn't really matter too much I guess.

Anyway, its not entirely about DPS... With the upcoming carbineer special fixes you all become more of a status change class. All the DPS in the world doesn't matter if you and the rest of your group are flat on your backs because the opposing teams carbineers keep you pinned down with thier dizzy and KD attacks. Heck, a rifleman alternating spaming flushing shot 2, flurry shot 2, and strafe shot 2, with a carbineer next to them laying down the ranged AE KD and AE posture down attacks could hold a pretty large group at bay for a good while, no matter what defense they have vs stun/dizzy/posture down/KD eventually one of these will land leaving them in a bad position.

hehe, wrong place to be talking speed, we lament our's, and know what rifles have.


all you need is a mere +6 in rifle speed attachments to cap a 6spd ion rifle, and +7 rifle speed caps strafe2 on a 9spd t21...if they were possible of course.


now compare that to 85speed (+25 carb attachments) at master, and you get us needing a 2.6spd carbine to cap cripplingshot/scattershotII/faa2.


simply put, rifles have too much compared to carbines, carbines have too little compared to rifles. no 2 ways 'bout it.

agree w/ you there, giving us +90speed would be a joke, speed slices and attachments would be worthless...i personally feel 75 is too much, 70 is 'bout perfect for our delay mods...that would make attachments VERY useful or speed slices very useful for those w/out alot of attachments.


i don't like the idea of being handed a 1sec/shot cap at any master level...rifles should have much less than 90, carb should have a little more than 60 (i like 70), pistol looks ok at 60, TKM have just waaaay too much, i say chop them down to 75...would only need +10 attachments to cap a 2.2spd VK, but they should be a quick class...and for the rest, i'm just not sure 'bout their mods well enough to comment on, but i'm sure most are too fast just like most of the ranged are (carbineer is the ONLY exception).

Realistically, all class should have the same speed at master. Math is Math. If everyone had +75 at master than everyone would speed up by the same amount and then your speed would be determined by the weapon of choice and the special you used.

Bah, in a perfect world I wouldn't agree with either of you there nova and pent, but lets face it, SWG is far from perfect. It would be nice to say pistols should be good at close range, carbines at medium, rifles at long. Would be nice to say that rifles get better DPS but have crap defenses and get pounded by melee and can only block half the damage coming to them, carbines get medium DPS, better defenses, status changes, and can counter attacks with no penalty to thier attack delay, and pistoleers have best defenses, both ranged and melee, can dodge anything, but don't get so good DPS. But unfortunately there is no close, medium and long range in SWG. We have a 64m playing field where everybody regardless of how much they train or workout can run a better than 5.4minute mile at a leisurely jog, and can sprint at a 3.8 minute mile. Even if I start out firing at max range I only have 7-12 seconds before a melee can initiate an attack, much less another ranged class. Ranged penalties are a joke at best, unless going against defense stackers. Even then you can get guns made with good accuracy @ ideal and how long does it take any ranged class to close the gap between max and ideal? 3-4 seconds tops?


I'm getting to the point where I don't think the combat in SWG CAN be ballanced due to the limitations they placed on themselves. Nerfing armor and buffs, while giving classes other than rifleman and BH w/ geno and eyeshot a chance doesn't change the fact that the entire population of SWG is olympic level atheletes.


Looks like I found my new cause... Nerf running speed!!!

You guys are right about stun weapons.


Eclipse is one gigantic rifleman with Ions everywhere. Or the every-so-often Expert Eye-Hunter with a Geo...

your speeds mods are fine, different damage type weapon is whats needed. take it this way....


would you rather do 50 damage every seconds in pvp???


or be doing 200 + with a stun or ap3 every 2 seconds hmmmmm????


master carbineers shoot plenty fast.
