Carbineer Archive
Thread: Rifleman Holo, but I'm a Master Carbineer =(
Give rifles a try you will like it. I did. you can always come back to carbines when they fix us
*crosses fingers and rereads the devs statements*
I was also reading things on the Rifleman forum where they were doing MASSIVE damage. I like dealing good amounts of damage and doing 5k with min/max powerups and crippling shot is great but was maybe looking to do more. I really like carbineer but its kinda I'm stuck in a crossroads. I am Master CH/Master Carbineer and I definately dont want to drop my CH tree cause I love my pets (REALLY, I do)...so should i just stick with carbineer? It does good damage but the ham costs are a killer, literally. I've been a carbineer since day one without really doing anything else in game cause nothing else seems fun at all except bounty hunter and with bounty hunter comes the fact that I would have to drop all the skills I like for the possibility of one that I might NOT like. Its kinda like a definitive time in my SWG online gaming career. The devs havent patched the game in a month and we're all kinda being lead around like stray cats with the catnip within our reach only for it to be tugged away from me. Think I should just say, "to hell with the holos" I'll keep doing what I'm doing? Ive been debating about changing a fighting class. Dont know which though. Holo said Rifleman, I dont like rifles...anyone else out there might have a good idea which "other" skills are actually fun to play? Fencer? Pikeman (dont laugh)? TKA? Pistoleer even?
To become Master Rifle, all you have to do is get conceal shot (available at 0100 rifle). Then you can solo ANY mob using that shot. It may be a little slow, but it's very effective. Use that to go to 013X Rifle and use flushing shot (maybe flurry) from there on out. It's not too hard to make it to master rather quickly.
Carbine for me has been unbelievably hard. I'm at 2214 and I can't seem to kill anything in a short amount of time (something I wasn't used to with Rifleman, Pistoleer, BH or Fencer). Savage Quenkers seem to be the mob of choice, but even they take a while and I seem to miss rather often. I don't even bother with Charge/Burst because the Charge usually fails. I'm legshotting my way to victory, just like a novice marksman.
I'm in the same boat as some of the posters in this thread. I am MCH and Master Carbineer. Frankly, I'm a bit bored, but I'm not ready to start tearing down my character yet. Instead I started a rifleman/swordsman on another server to see what that is like. I'm not far enough down the road yet to comment on what they are like at the master level, but I can offer some preliminary thoughts.
Rifleman is hard to level without a tank. If you check out their forums there are a lot of tips, but all seem to agree it's a bit boring and you don't see the big benefits until master level. On the other hand, if you do have a tank, or are usually part of a group, it can be fun. I imagine that it will be even more fun when I start dealing really heavy damage.
Interestingly, as until now an exclusive ranged player, Swordsman is a heck of a lot of fun. They do a LOT of damage too -- and target the mind. It's a nice change of pace. In fact I'm having a lot more fun leveling swordsman than rifleman at the moment.
Anyway, at this point, I think that if I were in your shoes and got a holo that said master rifleman, I wouldn't have a problem dropping the carbineer tree to give it a shot as long as I kept my CH skills to have a tank.
I'd say go for it. It's good to try new things.
Spoken like someone who isn't a rifleman. (sorry) Concealshot SUCKS for leveling, unless you like sitting there with no damage modifier with one of the slowest shots in the game. Rifleman sucks untill master, its as simple as that. The grind is a long one.

Y'know, Rifleman isn't all that bad. In fact, the climb to master is much easier than with Carbineer. I've been working on Master Carbineer for a about a week now and I'm barely making any headway.

As a rifleman I think that Rifle is a fun way to go. I think you'll be surprised and quite happy with the damage you do.
My advice is to pick up flushing shot first and group as much as you can. You may not want to keep rifles but based on my experience it is superior to Carbines, mostly becase of the difference in damage possible with rifles vs. carbines. You have the same redundent specials problems that rifle has. You just need the weapons to help you out.
give rifles a shot, but if you really love carbine you may have to give it up for a bit.

I've been a master rifleman for a while now. It was my second holo profession and I've stayed with it, through holo profession 3 and 4. I will stick with it until I get the FSS.
Concealshot sucks for leveling, does it? Well, what do you tell someone who doesn't group, since there are no non-ch tanks anymore? Strafe 1? Flushing 1? Default attack? Do that and you'll end up on your back more than a hooker inVegas. The grind sucks true enough, but once you get flushing 2, the grind goes a LOT faster. If your stats are migrated all into mind (as a human) and get buffed, Rav Tortons will be the way to go.
The grind isn't nearly as bad as carbineer. This is the worst grind I've ever had. Even Tailor was better. With Crippleshot and a good laser carbine, it still takes 8-9 shots to kill something as small as a savage quenker, let alone a Rav torton.
