Thread: Ranged Support is it worth it?

Hopefully I don't sound like a total noob, but is this tree worth it? I don't use any of the specials associated with this tree and I don't know if 'general ranged aiming' works. As a sidenote, does anyone actually use the 'Aim' command? Does it help? I've done some experiment with it and found that it just wastes a turn.

It helps if you have the need to control the target/crowd in order to keep your distance, I generally don't use /aim unless I'm a rifleman (which i just dropped) and threaten shot is a big help for me with my Carbineer/Ranger toon to keep the targets away for safety. It's all up to your needs really, it also adds general ranged aiming which works well when you actually use /aim.

For PVP? No. I have the tree for Squad Leader, and haven't used any of the skills in months.

I think most people will agree with me that the only thing the ranged support line is good for is suppression fire....even then it's redundant with carbineer

I find it very useful with pistoleer and rifleman only

I think the ranged support tree is useful for rifleman and pistoleer since it gives suppressionfire1 (ranged posture down). Since carbineer has that ability in the actionshots, that line really is not needed for carbineers.

When I had Ranged Support, I liked to use the /aim command quite often. It worked very nicely in combination with Charge Shot.

I just stumbled upon a question while reading this thread... With all the talk lately about accuracy and our effectiveness to apply states, and whether or not they are realated to each other, has any one ever tried or noticed an increase in states sticking if they use the /aim command before the FAS or FAA? Hmm...

When the cities start swarming with invincible jedi next patch, your only way to attack may just be

/aim

/aim

/aim

<insert favorite attack here>

How much does using triple /aim slow down someone at the speedcap?

I'm assuming 3 seconds. So 4 seconds to shoot once and be damn sure of hitting.

One important thing to note about aim is that it forces you to stop moving, both for the act of aiming and for the actual shot itself. So if you are facing a jedi at 65m and start "/aim;/aim;/aim;" the jedi is going to close veryquickly to you which might be detrimental to yourshort term health. Also if you are in an active battle with somebody else who is targeting you, the loss in defenses for /aim can rapidly remove any gain from accuracy (much like why people don't /kneel in combat, even with a ranged weapon).

Speaking for myself, I only /aim when I'm beginning a PvE encounter (so I have all the time I need to set up the shot), and I'm not ever firing at speed cap. If somebody is actually firing at speed cap and has more than novice carbineer accuracy, the loss of firepower will probably seem even more drastic for a marginal gain in accuracy.

Then again in a group combat scenario, if you are using an area attack and have a second it might be worth it...

Range support IV is very worth it to me. Like the above posters said: /aim; /aim; /Special does wonders. Couple that with chargedshot2 and ive noticed an increase in my pvp KD's. On top of that it gets rid of that stupid arse charging animation!

I haven't used that line for a long time now. But the special i liked in that line is the threaten shot.
