Well, us carbiniers are more known for shooting the crap out of anything and everything, and for running around shouting 'NE1 got a laser carbine for sale?' than for our spelling abilities.

Where's that extra A come from? Carbine -> Carbineer makes the most sense to me.

Both spellings are acceptable,"carbineer" and "carabineer".

Or, so ways Webster.

At least your mispelling is valid.. Medics with First Aid IV get to be "Field Stablizer" instead of "Field Stabilizer". Unless of course this has been fixed in the last 3 days.

Well, Carbineer comes from Carbine, wich is a smaller assualt rifle. Kind of like todays M4.

Carabiner is a tool used for climbing. =)

Actually, according to the Merriam Webster online dictionaryit's only carabineer and has no listing for carbineer.

I further checked Dictionary DotCom (it wouldn't let me include a link) and it shows carbineer as being a variant of carabineer.

Looks like both are correct, though carabineer is probably preferred.

Historically 'Carabinier' is the correct spelling. It comes from back in the Napoleonic Wars. They were a type of cavalry who were equipped with carbines (which were originally cavalry weapons, a full rifle being a bit too long to carry in a saddle).

Just a little FYI .

Historically, Serbians have never heard of carbine. All they knew was karabin and karabinjer and that was something that come from Italians. Ask them -- "Truth they will revieal"

Things were very quiet, so I thought I would look up (and then bump) the least recently updated thread on the carbineer forum.

Funny how it turned out to be a post talking about the spelling of "carabineer", which then turned into a discussion about the etymology of the term... I guess "carabineers" have always been intellectual in nature...

Oh, and this of course helps my post count. Only 9,819 more...

Edit: corrected count, oops.
