Good stock, good customer service, networking.
I'd also add, make sure you have a nice turnover of stock. I see tons of vendors with nice stuff on, it's just priced way above its value. Players soon get bored of looking at vendors that have the same stuff every time they look. I am sure some players do this just to make themselves look ub3r, or whatever the phrase is.

not true, swg has :
decent gameplay
rotten customer service
and atleast 4 hours of extra downtime pr week with an extra couple of hours to 24 hours on patch day
and still makes millions.

it depends on the item and the amount of traffic you have. some items, people will pay what ever price you put.

Why make millions, when you could make...billions?

Take a cue from R/L
over 90% of r/l small businesses die for one main reason..LACK OF FUNDING.
You may have a great idea, and great plans but if you dont have the cash to keep the business moving, it will die a quick death.
Make your plan first, then SAVE your credits until you have a lot of them (enough to pay for your grind, stock up your inventory, operate your harvesters and factories, and pay for your houses and merchants, and stockpile some resources.)
Ideally you should have enough money after all that to operate the business for a few months with no new money coming (say 3 months)
Also avoid trying to sell during your grind..its really really hard to keep up with orders while trying to grind at the same time..its a horribly expensive time and a very busy time.
Agreed...Like all good businesses u must remain super liquid and turnover the product.

yep!
thinks i have always done
1. command of my prices. price at what ever i want. my prices are alwayshigh, you can go loot or crafted yourself. if the prices is too high, go somewhere else.
2. pick who you do business with. I have ALWAYS picked who i do business with. money not everything, i don't care how much you offer, if your are banned from my vendor. we will NEVER do business. I have over 12 guild bans, and all afkmacro looters, and duppers are banned.
3. use hot items to bring in customers. People who visit your vendor to buy something will buy other things. I looted and made 1000 bubble tanks before the nerf, that brought in a ton of business. I put up 20 premium pearls at a time, that brought in a ton of business. make sure your vendors are stocked.
I think that overall good stock and good marketing, people when get into your shop want to see a lot of items for sale.
