I am just returning to the game after about a year or more gone. On a new server, at that. So I'm looking to try to make some money without being a crafter again. Before I quit the first time, I used to mine resources and sell them. Only problem is that I've been gone so long, and so much has changed that I don't know what resources are in demand. If anyone could give the names of some resources that I should keep an eye out for, and what qualities need to be high for them (i.e. OQ, conductivity, etc), I would really appreciate it.

will they be static harvs or will you move them around to the best resources available? if they are static and you just leave them in one place to mine the highest percentage spawn regardless of stats, you can sell the stuff for 1-2 CPU for grind.

i cant speak for the other crafting professions, but chefs need high OQ/PE/FL floras like berries and fruits. if you are trying to get the best resources possible, i suggest mining the crap out of something nice and then throw all of it in your bank and leave it there for a month. this certain resource may have been selling for 3-5 CPU when it was in shift, but a month after the shift ended and there is none of that super resource for 3-5 CPU, you can pull it out and sell it for 10+ CPU.

I was planning on moving them around as good resources spawn. The way I did it before was I had several heavies of each kind, and when the Yavinian Corn (for instance) was good, I'd throw all my flora harvies on it. That's sorta what I had in mind for this time around too.

Mining is truly a wonderful thing. My associate has quite a few of each type of heavy harvester and mines only great stuff. If a very high OQ water appears on Talus, he slaps a load of harvesters on it. If a Very high OQ/Cond Phrik aluminum pops up....you can bet he will have a 'farm' on it. Just wait until a high OQ Iruloon gas appears! You will get a feel for what crafters want as you get back into it. You may want to visit their forums and ask for the most desired materials to keep an eye out for. Polymer with great stats is always helpful and certain fiberplasts sell very well. He also has very rare, powerful radioactive harvesters that he always moves around for his own power and sells a lot of it as well.

As one poster mentioned, it is important to 'bank' great resources for a while so you can maximize your profit on them in the near future. It will be up to you if you want to contract mine. My associate doesn't do much contract mining...only for a close guildie maybe. Why contract for 3 cpu on a rare resource when he can sell it in a month for 5-6 cpu...and in a couple more months even 10 cpu or more? Some stuff he sells right away.....he just knows what stuff to hold back. He is not cheap...but he still has to workat keeping resources on the vendor. He worries about it all the way to the bank......

Good Luck!

Yes - The absolute best way to do it.. However, during those frequent times when there IS no "spectacular" resource spawned anywhere, just slap down some Mineral Harvs on agood % of ANYSteel - I actually devote the MAJORITY of my 20 lots (Jedi alt, afterall) to the gathering of Steel, and never have gone hungry.....

Quote that sums up the current, flawed direction of SWG:

A way to bring Combatant and Crafter together.

There might be some helpful information on your chosen crafting profession's forum.

Contract mine for different resources for different professions to get a handle on what people want and what stats they want.

It's still being updated for post CU, but mostly everything has, or will be fixed. For the majority, Weapons, Food & Meds have stayed the same in Stat & Demand catagories since the time you left.
