Thread: Auction Terminals

I would like to see auctions that dont have a cap of 6,000cr. This would cut down on the clutter from the bazaar and allow people not to really on the trade forums for auctioning. Ive had some auction up there with bidders that never intended on purchasing. A Auction system in game would really help. Either keep auction on the bazaar or make it a new terminal, which could also be spread out in unvisited parts of cities. Charge a fee to place a item on auction, it also takes up 1 space for bazaar. Same time system for how long the auction lasts. Add a Buyout system, any bid hitting buyout will automaticaly end the auction. Item withdrawal to reclaim item will cost a high fee as compinsation for removing the item early (10,000cr * X) were X = 2 / the number of removels during a Quater (3 months). This is to discourage storage. A button to close auction early on current top bidder (Once you think you cant get anymore you can end the auction and the last bidder wins). Closing early will also encure a fee but not as much as withdrawal, to prevent abuse you must wait 24 hours before a early close can occur.

System Recap:

  • Buyout - Winning max bid, ends auction.

  • Withdrawal Fee - Fee for pulling a active auction item, item returns to owner, Fee waved if no bids have been placed

  • Early Close - After 24 hours (Base Timer) item can be closed and sent to highest bidder.

There are some great ideas on the Merchant Forum about this kind of thing. It's in the thread about Auction Houses.

The ability to auction an item in-game is something we sorely need. Sometimes you just don't know exactly what to sell an item for and would do much better in an auction format than by listing on a vendor. The auction feature of the current bazaar terminal needs to go. It's not an effective tool and the 6k cap prevents anything "good" from being listed.

Expanding on what Egeis presented, players need to be able to set the terms of their auction to some degree. Choosing the length of the auction is very desireable (3-, 5-, or 7-day auctions). Otherwise, the actual system for the auctions as we currently have them isn't half bad. Just get rid of the 6k cap and allow them to go up to the limit that vendors have.

Have the funds "promised" to an auction become unavailable to the bidding player. This will prevent someone from entering a bid that they don't have the money to cover or entering a bid and then spending that money elsewhere.

Allow players to search auctions by category (as we have now) as well as by ending time (newly listed, ending first).

Give Merchants special abilities in the auction terminal. Let them choose things like "Featured Auctions" that automatically put their item at the top, regardless of sorting method. Merchants should be able to list more items than non-Merchant players. There are many different things that could and should be added as Merchant-only. For a fee, of course.

Me to, currently Auction is not even used for auctions as the cap is 6k, and if you do happen to bid on a item that player can remove it from auction.

The only problem i can see with an auction, is the time it takes and how greedy people are...i like the set prices, and having a limit on the bizzare. This isn't WOW

When the game first rolled out, the bazaar allowed you to view EVERYONE's vendors in the region or galaxy. That is why you receive a waypoint when you buy something. You could surf all the vendors everywhere. Buy something, then you had to travel and pick it up.

Yes, the bazaar needs a revamp... The categories are terrible, it's misused and the limit is too low to be usefull.

A suggestion was made on the Core Systems forum which I thought may be of interest to the Merchant Community. It got me thinking and I made a reply which I think would add value to the Merchant community and our consumers.

As it stands the only thing that supports the use of auctions are the bazaar terminals but they have a serious limitation due to bidding constraints. The things you'd most want to auction would be things which would fetch a price much higher than the capped transaction price and this is a terminal flaw which makes it all but useless (Pun intended).

Right now it appears that the Developers are looking to find ways to draw people back towards the Old Cities (NPC Cities). This would involve creating new features and content that folks would want or need and given the natural role of Cities in the world of commerce tying one need into another would add definate value.

One option is to add an Auction House into the Old Cities. Within the Auction House would be an Auction Terminal which would be similar to the Bazaar Terminals in many respects. While anyone can browse the auctions and place bids only a Merchant with Hiring IV could sell an item on auction. Merchants would also be able to place an extra item for each box they have in Merchant with an additional 4 items at Master

IE: A Merchant with Hiring IV could place 4 items, a Merchant with 3042 would be able to place 9 items and a Master Merchant would be able to place 20 items.

In order to place a bid the bidder must have the appropriate sum of credits to cover the purchase. If they "win" the auction this money is automatically deducted and they are given an email that they won the auction and they could then retrieve the item. if they "win" the auction and they do not have sufficient funds the next highest bid wins working backwards until someone really gets the item. Consequences for failed bids are something to be considered but not required.

If someone has an item they want to auction but do not have the appropriate skill they can sell the item consignment. Items which have a consignment sale can only be seenand bought by qualified merchants (see above) with the minimum bid specified by the client requesting the consignment and they can optionally direct it to a specific merchant. The sale of this item would transfer 85% of the sale credits to the person issuing the consignment, 10% to the merchant and 5% to the auction house.

Having an auction channel and trade forum is nice and good but I do not see why the best items in the galaxy should be subjected to manual transactions when there are professoins who should have more sophisticated means at their disposal.
