Yesterday, I went back to my old money making machine. Ever since they reduced the time for shuttles to 5 minutes, I wanted to know if I could make even more credits doing what I did while grinding up to Master Droid Engineer.
My pathway:
1) Go to Tyrena's Artisan Mission Terminal (Near the Marketplace) on Corellia.
2) Find a mission that originated within 100m of myself and paid around 1.5k in credits.
3) Get 2 missions.
4) Find the start of my two missions (NPC with components)
5) Buy ticket (round trip about 300-400 credits) to Vereni Island (S of Tyrena)
6) Wait for shuttle.
7) Burst run while making components to the customers (2 customers because there were 2 missions)
8) Return with new found riches to shuttle.
9) If I am lucky, catch the same shuttle back, get the next missions and the shuttle is still there for me to catch back to Vereni Island.
2) Find a mission that originated within 100m of myself and paid around 1.5k in credits.
3) Get 2 missions.

9) If I am lucky, catch the same shuttle back, get the next missions and the shuttle is still there for me to catch back to Vereni Island.
Now mind you, this had a lot of down time back in the day (sometimes 8+ minutes) Plus I had a very slow computer so I rarely got to do two runs on one shuttle (usually waited at the Vereni Island, and run to the terminals, and back to the shuttle and that was all I could do).
Well, lets just say that with a new computer (P4, 3.0 Ghz, 1 Gig of RAM), the wait reduced to 5 minutes, AND a swoop bike at my disposal things are a little bit faster. I could easily do 2-3 sets of runs every 10 minutes.
Therefore, lets assume that you can do 2.5 runs every 10 minutes.
2.5 runs * 2.5k credits / run = 6.25 k per 10 minutes
or
37.5 k per hour
Individual results may vary, however I think this is a pretty good bench mark for someone with a good computer. You would even be able to hand sample some resources while you wait if you are overly ambitious enough!
Now IF they truly reduce starport wait times down to 1 minute and if they similarly extend that curtesy to shuttle ports, then that minimum wage will drastically increase. You would be able to go back and forth with minimal down time. Essentially you would be able to do missions as fast as your computer will allow you. (By the way, you could not do this particular mission with your Starship because you can only puddle jump from starports to starports)
I think that when you price your items and while running around, checking your harvesters, you should really keep this credit amount in mind. If you are not making that at a minimum, you should probably consider either:
a) raising your prices (for those people that underbid others)
b) lower your prices (for those that price gouge and may want to reconsider their pricing schemes)
c) change your marketing scheme
d) get a better location.

The problem is, that I think a lot of crafters have become lazy and do not want to do those lather, rinse and repeat missions anymore. To be honest, that mission was a lot of fun because I never knew if I was going to be able to make it to the shuttle or not. Plus I met really cool people on the way doing the same missions as I.
If you have a better paying mission please inform me.
However, that one had several benifits:
1) Tyrena is a relatively unused city - little lag
2) Absolutely zero risk - do not have to run through the wilderness, just a shuttle jump and run through a small hamlet (Vereni Island)
3) Easily identifiable - Just look for a 1.5k paying mission... the ones that originate 400m away are acrossed the bridge, but end up on Vereni Island just the same... It is better to take the ones that are 100m or less from you. Some originate right next to the Shuttleport
4) Always available - RARELY do I get a mission that looks identical (less than 100m away and worth 1.5k) that is a different mission and the end delivery point is to the NNE. Moreover, you will on average get 1 of those missions per refresh click.

I just thought I would post this and let you guys ponder on the ramifications. Just keep this in mind when you are crafting. If you are doing this for the money, is your net income equal to that above? Perhaps we could start up those runs again and teach the newbies how us vet crafters used to make money to pay for those harvesters and materials to grind (instead of looking for hand-me-downs).

As a flegling artisan i found this situation by coincidence, after my newly joined guild disbanded. I went to coronet for some reason and started taking artisan missions, which i took the mission and got to the city i stayed there to do more missions. While i was puddle jumping i found the sweet payout ones from tyrena, 2500 credits easy per trip.
When i see a novice artisan running around i show them the mission.

What I am really saying is that 30-50k per hour is really good starting money. Heck, it is even good for later crafters too. My whole point was that if you are not making this at a minimum, then you should re-evaluate what you are doing!

I did this to make most of my money the first couple of months I played. I'd pick up 2 missions in Moenia going to Deeja Peak, craft, shuttle and deliver and then do the same thing coming back. Round trip you can pull down around 5k with just the novice artisan skill.

Back in the day i used to do a similiar thing with survey missions.
Iwould start in Nashal on Talus.
Survey for every ingredient near the shuttle port.
Grab 2 survey missions, and shuttle to Dearic.
Survey every ingredient there.
Try to complete the 2 missions I had taken, just to pay fo rthe shuttle ride.
Take 2 misisons for what ever I had found near the Shuttle port in Nashal.
Head to Nashal.
Survey.
Get paid.
Grab 2 more missions for the high concentration at the Shuttle port in Dearic.
Shuttle to Dearic.
Survery.
get Paid..
Repeat.
This was during the 10 min shuttle waits, but i could easily make both halfs of the trip in 10 mins. Roughly made 48k an hour doing this. Really great for a total newbie, with no friends yet in the game. I made a good start on Test Center like that.
