Heya
First let me say thatI don't want this thread to be a discussionif ebayers and their ilk have animpact the swg economy or not - there is another thread about this already.
According to the EULA it's clear that it is illegal though. And the last MMORPG I played was IMO destroyed by IGE and their ilk. I really have a grudge against them. One of the reasons I started to play SWG was the announcement that SOE is going to actively hunt them down and even make some examples and a big stink about the Ebayers and co.. Well, it never really happened. IGE and co. are still selling and buying credits and the Ebayers are flurishing.
I don't want to point fingers at SOE though because I understand that it might not be easy to track them down. I would like to ask though if SOE would take action against them if e.g. I or others would go 'undercover' and baiting those folks by pretending to be a potential buyer/seller and then report the accounts of the respective agents. If that works I'd hope tofind more like minded people who would try baiting themand hunt them down.
cheers!

The Devs' problem with credit selling stems from them not getting a cut.
With eBayed characters, they still have a subscribed player paying cash to KEEP playing. It would definitely explain how when people KNOW a player has eBayed their toon, and REPORTED it to the CSRs, that nothing ever gets done.
My solution?
SOE should set up a storefront where people can buy saber loot and other assorted desirables like Acklay Bones and Krayt Tissues. Stick them on the same randomizer as the stuff in-game, and keep the old-fashioned way intact too - no one should HAVE to pay extra for premium loot.
I FATHOM most of these bought credits are going towards buying saber loot, so imagine the sh*t storm that would be created if SOE gave the option of buying a premium saber crystal for 10 bucks through Station.
If they did this, the price for premium pearls (currently hovering at an insane 5 million per item on most servers) SHOULD go down to what the credit-equivalent of 10 bucks, which right now is about a million credits.

I still don't get it. I can't wrap my mind around the idea that people would give REAL money for game credits....
Are there people out there who are so lame as to waste real, hard currency on something as ephemeral and, frankly, easy to get as in-game credits? What could possibly be the motivation for this outside of some visceral need to be "more uber" than other people...?
I have better things to do with real money than buy game money. While I'm willing to drop money on my account fees, I couldn't justify to myself buying fake money for real. It would be equivallent to using real money in a game of Monopoly...stupid.
Yes, credit farms and other For-profit enterprises willing to make money off the lame and lazy are against the EULA, but so is the purchase of those credits by players. As long as people are willing to buy, there are people who will be willing to sell. You'll never completely rid yourself of the farmers until you rid yourself of those willing to buy the farmers wares...

People pay 15 dollars a month for fun, for some people it is worth more and they will put more into it so they can get more fun(not sure how cheating makes it more fun).

It's a opportunity cost Time is Money would a person rather grind for 3 hours to make a million credits (which to them might be boring) or spend 10 dollars to get a million credits? paying someone 3.3 dollars an hour to work for you to make credits is pretty funny lol
If they should want money though they should go Armorsmith you will have money coming out of your teeth!
