I've been mulling over a couple ideas for ways for people to advertise their vendors w/out spamming coronet, either with an AFK toon or a barker bot...
Billboards - pretty simple...add spaces in player and npc cities alike. We see them all over in Coruscant in episode two. They could be as simple as scrolling text, or images somehow imported into the game that players could draw (although, we'd end up with nasty stuff, so that the custom images probably wouldnt work so well).
Adspace - everyone knows that TV is the most effective way to advertise things in RL. But at first glance there isn't an equivalent media in SWG. How about selling ad space on the loading screens? You fly from coro to theed and see and add about a chef's shop outside theed, along with the usual canned loading stuff about tent rules and what not. Could also provide a good money sink, if you into that.

to me these are good ideas.
the main problem i see is that some of the spam are people or bots that dont have a pause or a very short pause in the text. What i have done to cut down on the spam is i put a 1 or 2 min pause or even longer at times. If everyone would do this instead of a constant rolling text would help but not cure the problem. The othe thing is the ability to block the bots. A times i have ingorned people with the constant spam if i could ingore bots would be help for the short term

Billboards? I can just see it now, instead of tens of text bubbles above people's heads, you wander through cities with crafter's ads plastered all over everything. Some cities are real nice to look at now--I'm not sure I like the idea of billboards plastered all over everything.
Adspace? I sort of like this idea. If you confine ad posters to the interiors of players' shops, that would be acceptable.
