Ok, we've all got a speeder (well at least most of us anyhow) and since their introduction they've been a boon for travelling long distances. With 4 types of speeder it's possible to choose one that you're at least happy with. In the game it seems that this is where the use for your average common-or-garden speeder begins and ends. Master Artisans produce these vehicles and sell them, with the only challenge being the ability to get to as close to 100% as possible with high quality resources. As far as I can see this affects nothing other than the space between the times you have to pull up to a garage and repair it. In a nutshell, they are functional, but just a little bit boring really. Let me cut to the chase. We hear, and read about the presence of Swoop Racing all the time in the game. NPC's termed Swoopers appear everywhere but none have speeders nearby and other than aggro passing members of the public have no use other than cannon fodder.
Allegedly Swoop Racing replaced Pod Racing when it was outlawed by the Empire. However other than the presence of tracks where you can see if you can beat the daily speed record and earn yourself a nice badge (wow!) there seems little evidence of this pasttime at all. So here are some suggestions
1. Speeders -Overhaul the current speeder production system, and make them craftable from various components (we know that this is possible because it's done already with JTL)
2. Components -Allow a profession to be able to produce these parts in the same way as a shipwright can. Better resources = better experimentation results = improved performance components. That profession could be the venerable shipwright himself making Racing Speeders seeing as he already has the skills and equipment to make ships. Common speeders could still be made by Master Artisans, or there would have to be some way in which the system still relied on the Master Artisan for a specific component to eliminate them losing a niche hold in the current economy (I can imagine all the MA's already reaching their mouse towards the 1-star). My char has MA, so I'd hate to see them lose income
3.Racing System - Institute a Racing System which allows entry to races organised by the local crime and gambling syndicates. Imagine being able to involve yourself in The Jabba Stakes, with the chance to win yourself halfa million credits. Make it possible for it to be entered by either guilds, or by independent riders. The internal game mechanics could serve to flag up these events as they arrive.
4.Gambling - Make these events open to gambling, with a rating system in situ which allows players or NPC's to place bets on you. Obviously your ranking would result from races won etc etc, and would affect the number of bets attracted. A success would grant you a percentage of the total bet + the prize money. This could of course be given the added flavour of carrying a grave risk. Let's say that Jabba, or the local Imperial Planetary Governor places a hefty bet on you, and you lose. You would lose Jabba faction or in the worst case may even be flagged with a TEF by the Imperial Governor who wants you dead for losing and costing him credits (He himself may be in danger of Darth Vader appearing to choke him for being corrupt and squandering credits on gambling). This would reflect the danger of existing in a harsh unforgiving universe. When you're at the top of your game, there's no such thing as a free ride!!! It would however allow another outlet for non-combatants
5. Swooper Skills - In much the same way as JTL has pilot skills, the same could be applied to Swoopers. Race experience could result in skill points gained which give skills. A Champion Swooper could have a number of skills available such as 'turbine overload' or 'nitro-boost' which allow the turbine to be forced to increase it's output. Of course this could cause the Swoop to be irrevocably damaged and eliminated from the race (time to hide from Jabba). Racer could be outside the skillpoints system in the same way as pilot

THis is how they should do travel:
1)Speeders such as flash or av21 should be able to allow other players to enter their vehicle and enjoy the ride
how this works:
the player(s) group together, the owner of the vehicle will use enter command and a message will pop up on the other player's screen saying "Do you wish to enter the passenger side of name vehicle" if you agree then you appear in the vehicle ready to enjoy the ride. To get out you just use the normal way of getting out of a vehicle.
2)Speeder bikes should have a useable weapon on it (look under the speeder bike there is a gun there) but you need marksman skills to use it effectively.
3)Races should be more realistic such the player will start on a starting line and can go against npc racers if no players arrive, if players do arrive they can replace the npc positions. The winner gets the badge and a price money.
4)Faction vehicles- they should have some faction vehicles such as tanks, apc, driveable at-st , at pt and etc making the gcw funner. Tanks need aleast 2 players, 1 to man the gun and 1 to drive. The apc has no weapons but can transport up to 10 men. At st need 2 players, at pt needs 1 player. A new skill should be added called "Imperial driver" or "rebel driver" and players must work on this tree if they wish to be able to buy new and better vehicles, but if you drop the skill and have say a tank you will not be able to use it, this skill will take skill points to make it fair.
Well thats some of my ideas.

YES!!! Please give up multi-players transports. I want to see those ROTJ skiffs on Tattoine!

Great ideas. 5 stars for you.
I would like to say this though about the part about races. Why don't guilds have races? Guilds are already organized, have players, and some even have rivels. All a guild would need is an impartial guild to oversee the race, and control the prize credits. Have each racer contribute a fee for entry, use in game race couses with stationed players at each WP to inform everyone who is running in first, and the winner would receive a portion of the purse (winners take of the entry fees)
currently we only have a small range of speeders, so winning would be based on the players ability to controll their speeder. I bet if the players started to do these type of events, the DEVs would be more motivated to introduce more speeder options and types.

Very nice idea, but all parts should be crafted by Artisan, with the most important by Master Artisan.
