This is becoming an issue that should not be ignored. People are AFK camping places like Nyax. Not only is this affecting the economy, but it's pissing off the people who want to go there just to finish it once. What will be done about this???

I totally agree with you. AFK of anything combat in this game should be gotten rid of. I've seen groups of people AFK killing the NPC's who spawn in cities on Tatooine, and it does nothing but clog up the streets and create more lag for everyone.

I say set up a covert scanner next to them, then kill the AFK campers when they pop a TEF.

Also, perhaps start a thread with player names of those spotted AFK camping a spawn, perhaps we can embarass them into changing their ways

Let me give you an argument that was explained to me on several occasions why we shouldn't prevent AFK play. It is not my argument, but its the sort of argument I get when I inquire about AFK play:

AFK players do not harm the economy at all. They help it.They allow players to get access to the things they need to play 24/7. They allow casual players to grind quickly so they can start enjoying the game. They giveindividuals and guildsbeneficial services, services that would not be available if AFK play was disallowed. AFK spawn campers are great because of the loot that is gained, as well as the extra XP to create a combat alt to take down bases and PvP. Indeed, what harm is done camping a spawn at 3AM when nobody is around? And even if the AFKer annoys you, there are other POIs you can go to. What's the fun in pressing F1 all day spamming the same special watching your toon fight? Indeed, those who argue against AFKers and think they are ruining their game are simply jealous because a better way to advance has been found. Players just need to not be so lazy and have the developers nerf others, and do what it takes to outdamage the AFKer. Besides, its their $15, and who is anyone to say that something so useful and beneficial to others is wrong? Stop whining and either quit, or suck it up and deal with it.

Sound nasty? As a dancer who has had systematic, unattended buff camping in the cantinas for more than a year, this is the sort of thing I hear on a regular basis on why I should accept AFK players doing the things I enjoy. But you'll never hear how the entertainer's problem with unattended play is something that is a game-breaker and needs to be stopped. But when unattended, macro-driven combat alts start affecting players anywhere but the cantina, you better believe its a sin that needs to be dealt with ASAP.

Unfortunately, as the buffbot owners and proponents who come to our profession boards have stated, unattended play is protected under the EULA, and it is written in the Holocron that it is not considered an exploit. And even if the developers want to do things to make the tools of unattended automation go away, the buffbot owners, buffbot users, and those who depend on unattended play have stated that they will quit, fight it, or continue to discover ways to continue 24/7 automation.

I really, really feel bad that individuals are camping POI's around the clock while they are at the movies, at work, or on another character. I am sure you may even get a lot of sympathy from other players...a lot more than us I would imagine. Because you see, many in this game feel that what you are doing is important and should be preserved for live players. They praise the unattended buffbot that they see in Coronet, but they sure hate the unattended looter at the Nyax cave.

Sort of ironic, don't you think?

that won't work.... some of them will take pride in the recognition and keep doing it.

Not only that, but some people don't have a faction.

But I'm kinda glad this thread is up. Now combat people are begining to realize how bad AFKers are. Something Entertainers have endured since launch pretty much.

Hmm.. I'd hardly say turning on a game and setting an AFK macro qualifies for "playing" the game. And if they had a "real life", they'd feel no need to turn on the game, and set their AFK macro - because they'd be out living their real life.

Only when AFK infringes on the game play and enjoyment of others does it become a problem...

Sad, but true. If I need an entertainer, I will use "live" players first, but if I nothing else is available I will use the AFK entertainer. Now, do AFK entertainers impugne on non-AFK entertainers...yes. But how many currently live entertainers gained xp from the same AFK entertaining? Probably most of them...

AFK camping of POI's definately causes a loss of enjoyment for other players. People who wish to enjoy things like the Nyax spawn find AFKer's and have no recourse. These AFKer's are taking the ability of enjoyment away from other paying customers and so must be stopped.

SOE currently has plans to eliminate the recursive macro's that make this possible. Hopefully, they can do so in a way that recognizes actual keystoke commands from players vs toolbarSlot00 type commands from macros so that recursive macros used by live players will still be usable, but I'll deal with it if all recursives have to go if it will stop the camping.

Will we suffer? Maybe. At the very least, most of us will be required to change our gameplay, and we might have to travel a bit to find an entertainer, and perhaps entertainers will clamor for something that requires them to approve anyone using them for Mind/BF healing so that they can earn a credit or two. I think it will be worth it.

And if we can get instanced POI's, that be even better.
