I am a shopper, not a vendor. My profession is mostly combat, so the only way this will benefit me is I will have a better shopping experience (and game experience).
Also, I am new to this forum, so if this idea has been put out there already, I apologize.
But, since I travel to New York and London from time to time, enjoying the experience of what a "market" truly should be, I can't help but notice that this game is missing the mark maybe just a little bit.
I'm often puzzled by the lack of use of very cool cities in this game. The only "business" that is done is hand to hand trading and spam-type advertising. I think it would be so cool if we could walk down Mos Eisley or Naboo, being able to view endless markets (not bazaars), also price comparing from store to store.
We have the towns, and we have plenty of unused real estate. Why not use it? Couldn't we maybe expand the large cities a bit, designating some space to have Master Merchants pay a lease for this prime real estate to sell their products? This would open up another market of Real Estate itself; players selling their spot to others.
I know this opens us up to a million questions; none of which though couldn't be answered by utilizing some rules. For example, I know overpopulation causes extreme lag; but if these markets are spread out enough, I think it could work. Besides, who hasn't stepped into a cantina with 25 entertainers, spamming and dancing? We can live with it (hehe).
I just think that it would be a huge opportunity to make this game even more awesome.

I love this idea! However I think each planet should have a designated NPCplayer merchant city rather than turning Theed and Coronet into an even bigger lag-zone. Cities like Bela Vistal and Deeja Peak which rarely get visited should be the center of these NPC player merchant cities. Both Bela Vistal and Deeja Peak have a very unique style and deserve some attention. I for one would close up my current shop if I could own a shop in Deeja Peak (my favorite NPC city). It would also get players back to NPC cities and would spread people out from travelling only to Coronet and Theed.

Would also relieve some of the lag in the over populated areas some. Heck it may even make the lag cities lagless lol.

That Lag exists because of merchant trade....not in spite of it.

Lag exists for many other reasons then just merchent trade. It also hinges on the population in a given area and how much a spacific area can take before the frequenceys of all the players computers as well as the server begin to degrad.
And I also think the merchent idea is a great idea

Phys, that's even better. I agree, there are so many ghost town cities that have great potential. This would definitely stimulate the population in those areas.

I agree this is an awesome Idea and the idea of using places like Bela Vistal and Deeja Peak would be awesome. Use some of the less populated core cities.
/Ponders: Boy what would it fell like to fly into cornet and not lag.

My only concern is that whatever city ends up being the merchants city will get lagged out to the point that it would be detrimental to game play.... just a concern. otherwise i would love to see something a bit more centralized for shoppers to go to.

As a merchant, I'd buy such a small plot and use it

I have been posting a lot on how I like the new “Vendor Search” system they are thinking of adding. But if something like this got added I would like it ever better.
Even in the NPC cities that are used heavily there is still a very large part of them that is not even touched. If the untouched area of the NPC cities and the unused NPC cities had large shopping areas added to them for rent out, I would go for this over the Vendor Search.

This is where i see a problem. People could buy the spots and just keep them forever, thus helding other merchants out of the fun. If this where to be implented it would have to be on a lease kinda deal, say you get to lease a spot for 1 maybe 2 weeks, then when that time is up you would have a "cool-down" timer and not be able to lease another for 1 week or so.
