Thread: new feature suggestion: Harvester Power Depots

It would be a great convenience feature for people who use harvesters to be able to put power into a central depot (like a bank) so that their harvesters take that power directly from there.

IMO it should be a bit more costly that way than if you go out and feed them yourself (maybe +10% and this addon cost should also be deducted from your bank if you dont feed the harvys manually but let them deduct from bank with the new feature since the latest publish)

Another vital convenience feature would be if harvesters could be set to switch to another ressource automatically once their resource shifts out. Once again it could be made to cost a little fee. Say if you set up your harv, you decide on wether you want to make it automatically switch and pay 65 credits per hour or make it standard for 60 credits per hour (for example)

I know many people will say this makes the mining even more automatic but if you got a life besides SWG you will often loose credits, resources and temper due to ressource shifts and power outages on your various harvesters if you don't log in like a working bee every day at a set time. A fighter profession can log in whenever he wants and thus play a bit more at ease and more "gamelike"

like your idea would help with maintaining harvesters. maybe make it where you can only have one of these structures and only 5 harvesters can be linked to it and in a certain radius from the structure.

I like the idea of linked power, this was one thing where I thought that the mining was a little off. It was like having to put batteries to run the harvs.

As far as switching to another resource when it runs out I don't think is possible. How will the harv know what to switch to? Will it switch to the type that you are currently mining, will it change to the highest percentage? This doesn't seem too viable.

I know how tough it is to mine and have a life outside of SWG, I ran a mining guild for about 4-5 months last year and the guild made about 100m or so, and I was the one who did all of the harv runs and business end of it, but then that is one reason that I haven't dropped a harvester for about 4 months, I hate it, it wears you out after a while. Now I do fighting and pilot to make my cash and my income is greater than my expenses.

Power Transfer Depot Station

1 Lot

10 Maintenance/Hour/Linked Harvestor

100-500K Capacity/Linked Harvestor

Requirement: Only harvestors on the same planet may be linked.

Effects: Upon linking a harvestor to the depot it would immediately deposit all it's power into the depot and temporarily remove it's power usage line (Just like the self powered harvestor reward deed would do).

Any questions?

Rather than create another item.. why not just make power droids actually provide power? Drop the little guy in a harvestor field and let it do it's thing. Sure, this may take away the "Planet-wide" availability, but droids are a central and intrigal part of the StarWars Universe, and they are being severly underutilized in SWG. Perhaps allowing an owner to call more than one utility droid at a time could help to resolve this.

Because that would require AI, though it would be amusing to watch power droids with 1,000,000 units of energy (10 count storage bay) wandering around all the harvestors you owned, keeping them all powered up It's a different type of power though really. They can't even get 0% power to work on droids, they still do that 75-100% thing. Don't expect them to be able to cross link power types.
