I "named" my business 6 months ago. Recently a guild has popped up using the same "TAG" AOM.
What can I say, I don't really like it but there's nothing I can do about it. Other than laugh at myself for not wasting 5-9 Lots on a guildhall just to put a claim on "MY" name......

Unless your business name is AOM and not A.O.M. (an acronym), trademark rules probably wouldn't apply unless the competiting group had a substantially similar product. Since no trademark rules other than those of Lucas/the devs exist, you're just out of luck. And I don't approve of this being added in the future either. Can we say cybersquatting?

Did you register with the Imperial Office of Trademarks and Copyrights? Even if you did, you wouldn't have much of a case unless they're offering goods or services in your industry. I can start up a bar called "Kuat Systems", and probably get away with it. I might even be able to serve drinks called "Firesprays". I certainly wouldn't be able to start up a shipbuilding business with that name, though.
And I'm really posting just to say that this made me laugh.

Actually, just a joke, I wasn't intentionally being sarcastic. OwNaGe: there isn't any in-game registration, I should really start limiting my posts when it gets that late.

I remember a long time ago someone had the idea to try and setup a registry of brand names to be used for products. It was in the architect forum and I think they were intending it to be specific to architect items. THe idea was to make your own brand or model lines and even do limited runs. It was an interesting idea. But it never flew.
Some sort of name registry might be doable as a RP kinda thing though. Or maybe a server could come up with its own registry of company names and enforce it through just community etiquette (i.e. the lynch mob).
