Hey everyone, I finally got around to buying an alt account.
Playing a CM/Rifleman isn't the most economically friendly character to have as a first.
So I figured I'd give either crafting or the ranger business a try.
If I went crafting, does anyone know what a good market to enter is? WS/AS looks really fun but there's already so, and so many good ones on Eclipse that it'd be hard-pressed to compete make a living.
So... any suggestions?

Try mining. Buy 10 personal havesters, plop them down and sell on the bazaar. Upgrade to mediums and heavys as fast as possible. Lots of credits with little playtime needed. You can earn more as a crafter but at a much higher investment. In fact. this tactic would work well with your main.

I recommend doing contract mining or lot renting first.

If I can't survery for decent resources will I still be able to even sell them?
What exactly is lot renting?

Quality resources are always profitable, but don't underestimate the vaule of low quality either. Chef use a TON of cereal for alcohol. The stats on the cereal do not matter, so most will buy the the ones with the worst quality they can find. There are also uses for low quality flora food (carbosyrup), and vegetables (syopro).
BEs also use grind quality flora food for Pet crafting, but not even close to the amounts that Chefs need.
I'm certain that other professions are in the same category, but I am unfamiliar with them.
Lot renting is when you rent out your lots to someone else. You place harvesters down and add the buyer to the admin.

There is some market for grind quality materials. Ore or steel can still usually fetch 1-2 cpu no matter what the quality.
Or if you do subcontract mining for other people, where they give you the WP and you just drop the harvesters and handle maintenance.

That sounds like pretty handy money just for dropping harvs and letting them do the work.
Anyway, as to professions - any suggestions on that? I wanna fill up my 250 points on something useful =P.

It's hard to gauge what will happen with the revamp. Presumably ws and as will become more interesting, but not sure what else will.

// Several way.
// 1) pay for good locations. have someone else survey a location for you.
// 2) pick up artisian, you are thinking crafter anyway so you will be able to survey
// 3) Look for a bunch of other harvesters and drop your next to them. Figure the
// largest concentration of stuff is what they are getting.
// 4) place them anywhere, check them every day or so and collect whatever has
// the highest concentration or get 1 of each and then harvest whatever is best.
// never move the harvestres and just accept what spawns there

// Takes some work, the renter surveys a spot, sends you a location, you move
// your harvester to that location, put them on the admin list. They put in credits
// and power and takes out the mined material.
//
// Depending on the deal, you might find yu need to move the havesters on a
// regular basis, be on call to move them at any time, or some other schedule.
// The amount the renter pays should take into account the trouble it will take.
