Thread: The progression from a crafting based Economy to a Quest based one.
No, I'm not talking about the fact that Kashyyyk is an adventure planet.
What I'm talking about is the over abundance of finished items as quest rewards.
Seriously. 7 Ships?! It makes sense that some of the Clone Wars era ones are questable, but the Heavy mid ranged fighters?
How many weapons that were promised in the CURB, and are Quest only?
Clone Trooper armor.
Yes, it's nice to get nifty new things as quest rewards. I'm not against having some of the items as quest rewards, or even better, a version of them as quest rewards.
But at the same time, unless you're trying to cut crafting out of the game entirely, allow us to get our hands on schematics. People want this stuff, and if quests result in 1 item per person, we're going to see lots of inflated prices.

I'm just waiting until they make a Battle Droid Pet Quest reward... that'll be the final nail for me.
You hadn't heard? That's in the next patch
I can see where you are comming from......
But I actually have a set of Katarn Armor and they only reason I have a set is beacuse I got it from the quest.......I hate to say it but if it were a craftable set only I would prolly never have any.....I will never own any faction armor unless something happens and the price drops consideribly.....
I have been playing roughly 2.5 years and the largest ammout of credits I have ever had at one time is about 650k(which all went to a YT-1300)less than half the currend low end prices for faction armor and about what a set on non faction armor costs...........
I do think however crafters should beable to get schemitcs for the new armor/weapons I would gladly hand over my armor and proton carbine to be made into a scematic with the understanding I get at least one set at no cost to me and a small discount (readno300% profit at my expense)on future purchases of stuff I hand over to be made into schematics.......

I know how you feel. The game was suppose to be Crafting-based Economy, that was what made this game so special, now, with the CU and RoTW, crafting has lost its taste, that is why my master shipwright is going to become a Combat Profession/Resources Dealer. Just so that I can at least have fun, crafting isn't fun anymore.
As far as I am concerned they are turning it into EQ in space. Something they said, along time ago, they would not do.
You watch the next thing they will do is change professions to the quest system of EQ where you start out as a marksman and that is it. You are ranged for that toons life. No cross classing. You can go to Master Marksman, than continue up the marksman tree into Pistoleer, Rifleman or Carbineer; THAN when you are at the top of those you can branch intoa hybrid that is linked to it like Commando, Bounty Hunter or Squad Leader. But you can never be a crafter, entertainer, scout, artisan or brawler.
Don't be to surprised if this happens.

I bet if you gave a MAS the 23k FP it takes for faction armor then I am sure he would give you a suit for free. My guild armorsmithsare willing to make all of us Faction armor for free. We just need to give them what FP we can.
For me I always made items for free if someone brought me a schematic, if it had mroe than one use. If it had one use I would charge the 3-10 CPU for resoruces based on how much the resoruces were worth+ the cost of any special components that I used. IE scythe would run 10k-200k depending on what I used, and if I was making it for a friend or an already established good customer it would be free.

These doom and gloom posts are nonsense. The quest rewards from Kashyyk are one-shot deals. They cannot be replaced. Who in their right mind is going to use an irreplaceable item for everyday use? No one. What are they going to use then? They're going to use crafted items. Also, not everyone has an ADK, nor can afford one. And if they did have one they wouldn't put it on an irreplaceable item that is only marginally better than a crafted item because they wouldn't be able to retrieve it without destroying the irreplaceable item.

And what happens when the next expansion or upgrade comes along? If this issue isn't addressed, you might see even more quest based items and not player made.
A side issiue, that I think is important. Does anyone know if there are any non-combat quests on Kashyyyk? You know, some sort of epic quest for a crafter to make the ultimate [fill in your crafting profession's product]?

Totally agree... of all the things that have happened over the past month or so, the circumventing of the crafting community the player-based economy SOE was so proud of in the beginning is the most disappointing.
me = long time pure crafter = couldn't disagree more
The quest rewards are great IMO.
