Alright before I start I'd like to say something. I've been around since Day1 this is just a new account. I'm an old forum warrior with 2500 posts so I know the flame game when it comes to n00bs.

On top of that I used to be an expert on the SWG economy. Not only did I post in here a lot and debate the state of the economy....I played the game to the fullest extent and had endless supplies of cash. I have since....uh....done some stuff....with my old account....so that now I don't have it. ::

Anywho...I come back, basically as a n00b, last week. I see that the average high end player still spends between 1-3mil on equipment per week. (Armor is expensive and goes fast, brandy, buffs, etc., etc. I also noticed earlier today that they nerfed the good ol' solo grouping for 25k missions deal.

From personal experience I know that, at one time, the resource game was big cash. Since then I have noticed that most of those resources end up going for 1cpu or less unless it's uber quality. On top of that the uber quality spots are usually taken by the time people are able to get there.

I know that NS hunting is most likely useless (that used to be my fav. source of income) because they are essentially un-solo-able unless you have the cash to pay for uber weaponry.

Thus we have this viscious cycle in which the really f*cking rich guys from 8 months ago (when I left) stay really f*cking rich.

It seems to me...and this may not even be true....that the only reliable sources of income are as follows:
--Working your ass off all day doing missions a day or so per week (still really slow cash)
--Getting those really rare meats & hides and selling to AS and Chef's for XXcpu (doesn't seem like this will ever change)
--Finding rare...yet still somewhat expensive loot (IE: aukaun rings, nym feeders, clear crystals, etc)
--Getting lucky every once in awhile on a harvesting spot and selling for a good price.
--Maybe power? I remember dropping down 3 or 4 fusion generators and selling power quickly for about 1cpu.

All of which are fair-weather friends....and can leave immense dry-spells. (Was it too long ago to remember when Rainbow Gemstones didn't spawn for 6 months and T-21's didn't exist??)

My question is: Are there really any reliable sources of income that can be accessed by the beginning player without walking around all day on shift-days looking for resource locations?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

P.S. Rock on SOE for finally nerfing back the economy. It was getting way out of control. I still have friends rolling with over 100mil...and that wont change...but I'm glad to see them attempting to hold back the economy to a certain extent.

The simple fact that mission terminals were putting endless sums of cash into the system and there were, essentially, no drains (and there still aren't too many drains) was ridiculous. I'm glad to see they got rid of solo groups but I'd like to see them follow through with the rest.

SOE can't only cut out one aspect of the economy and expect it to stabilize.

I don't disagree with what you're saying.

My friend started me out with 300k. I get 2 or 3 /tells a day asking if I want to join a guild as well....all saying that they'll provide housing and such. I've already made a few hundred k doing space missions. I'm not spending mad cash on brandy or even buying composite. I use high end ubese armor (200k) and a good slice on some cheap VKs.

That's not my point. It took me months to learn the tricks of the trade back in the good old days. I learned what sold and what didn't....I made good and bad investments.

The problem is that the people who aren't worrying about money (people with 4mil+ i'd say) aren't the ones running high-pay missions in solo groups. They aren't the ones who got hurt by that nerf. By nerfing the missions they nerfed the n00bs.

That still wasn't my point.....the question still stands.....were the ideas I previously listed still viable methods of making cash?

I recently rerolled my Alt. About 2 weeks to be precise. The only thing I supplied to my alt from my main was a house, used for storage, and Tier 3 ship chasis. Everything else my Alt paid for on its own. Weapon upgrades, clothes, etc. In the first week I had about 200k thanks to space, by selling the loot and the mission rewards.

I ran a few theme parks and I got the armor from jabbas, and I bought some low end stuff. I didn't go out and by the foods, and super weapons, I just bought ones that were good enough that I could afford and use.

I have slowly went through and bought new clothing, mostly BE to help with scout. I don't think there is a problem with the N00bs being shut-out from getting stuff, mainly due to the fact that I had a toon with no prof tag, no rank tag, and no guild tag. I would get about 2 or 3 tells a night from people asking if I need help, or wanted to join a guild, etc.

In time the n00bs will find their own path to riches, I know a few who only have a few hundred k and they get everything they need. You don't need 800 milllion in cash to have fun, or that uber rifle thatyou wouldn't want to use because it may break. Just find out what you like to do in the game and enjoy, that is what makes the game fun, and if you like owning the best of the best, then you will have a challenge, but even that would be fun to aquire the wealth to buy the items.
