In respec to the crafting professions, and in particular the armorsmith profession, i always seem to have a real hard time finding good resources for armor crafting. While some resources are in abundance, such as steel, iron, etc. others simply cannot be found anywhere...such as decent Naboo bristly hide, or Corellian Fiberplast. What usually ends up happening is i have to check bazaar on planetary level which turns out nothing due to lack of merchants w/vendor search capability. Then, after that, the same ole gig of driving around for hours at a time, checking individual vendors across the galaxy for the resources needed..get frustrated and hold off till another day when i can do the same thing and hoping to get different results.
I loved when they gave us the 30k resource deed vet reward. That was a novel idea and i think was a great time for crafters and stimulated the economy dramatically. Alas, these deeds are now few and far between, and if i manage to find another i suspect its value has sky-rocketed above the 5mill cred lvl.
I'm curious if any other crafters are feeling the way i am. I thought that maybe they could possibly add an NPC that would sell resources, in a very similar manner a 30k resource deed worked. Maybe make the resource cost commeserate to the quality of the resource, and very inflated. At least with that concept, i would be able to buy small amounts of resources needed and get on with the game. I dont think this would affect the resource econ since there will always be a demand for resources...and if the prices were inflated maybe i would still have to make a careful consideration before resorting to seeing the 'resource dealer'...but i do believe its a great idea and would help us serious crafters out immensely.

The problem with both the 30k resource deeds and the idea of having npcs selling resources is that it totally shafts long time crafters, i look at it as a "perc" of being a 10 month + ws that i have better resources than a new ws, collecting the resources is a part of starting out, just like collecting high end armor, weapons and tapes if you do combat.
Any organic resource is always in spawn, but not always in quality, you just have to wait for it to come into spawn and grab alot of it.
IF they put it NPC vendors that sold those resources, well you would pretty much tell a person who has spent over a year collecting the best resources in spawn : screw you, you just wasted a whole year or more.

Just put your time in. Eventually you'll have a top notch resource collection. It took me months to build up my WS resource collection, and it's a never ending process.
Just get the best stuff you can and make the best product you can. As better stuff spawns, get as much of it as you can.
New crafters need to pay their dues and put in their time like the rest of us did.

I feel for you but a resource npc would really be a bad idea economically; having an npc with dev-imposed caps on cpu for quality resources, even if the cap is high, is a bad idea. If you think about how that would affect everyone, from the people that mine the resources, to the rangers that get your hide, to the architects that sell the harvestors...everyone would be impacted by such a change.
I know I could sure use some lok leathery hide right now...nothing but crap for the last four spawns, and I didn't jump on that good spawn like I should have, or buy enough when I should have, but I consider that a fault on my part. I'm trying to make up for that with the wooly hide

I'm afraid I don't have much sympathy for a new Armorsmith especially. The CU just devalued or made worthless most of the resources a smith would have stockpiled, targeting the more expensive ones specifically. I know it's frustrating sometimes when you need something that isn't spawnning in a quality worth using. It's all part of everyones' progression twords really becoming a Master Armorsmith, beyond the boxes being filled with experience points, though. Look at the bright side, you really don't need those (previously) pricey experimentation tapes anymore.
For now, I'd suggest using the galactic vendor search rather than the planetary map as anyone with a vendor has access to that. With the resource names not displaying it'll still be time consuming but far less than driving from vendor to vendor all over the galaxy. Also, it might not hurt to talk with one of the established smiths on your sever. You may find one interested in working with you.

Cultivate relationships with other crafters who might know resource sellers or people with resources that you need or know someone who would need. Find out who the contract miners/harvesters are and add them to your friends list.
I personally think the 30k resource kits were an awful infliction on the economy initially in the same manner as the ADK and self-powered harvester. My only consolation is that the 30k kits are consumable and not repeatable like the other two.

Try hiring a Ranger
. Ok, so it's a plug for my profession. I haven't been around long, but I already know that artisans make our profession fun and potentially profitable. Personally, I depend on artisans for business more so than BEs, BHs, or Docs.
Try hanging out in a busy starport for awhile. You just might see a Ranger coming in to deliver some resources. Send him/her a tell or a e-mail and tell them what your looking for and an idea of what you're willing to pay.

Btw, your NPC resource exchanger is an awful idea for the same reason that the 30k kits were bad. Things that become scarce either from lack of supply or consumption should stay scarce, otherwise the devs should just make sure the best resources are always in spawn.
