Speaking as a crafter I don't really like your idea. It's okay for some items to require looted components, or to require loots to make enhanced versions of our goods (like krayt tissues for example), but most crafters don't want to be overly dependent on the combat professions just to make our wares.
Loot whoring may provide irregular income, but when you score, you usually score big. Even mid-range CAs/AAs can sell for millions of credits. If you're lucky andloot something really nice you'll be set for a long time. And there are plenty of different mobs/dungeons to hunt, not just Nightsisters or Blacksuns: Krayts, GDKs, Avatar platform, Necrosis, the DJM/DJK exploit (until it gets fixed at least), Aukuan Cave, Kashyyyk quest rewards (which are guaranteed for completing the quest)...and so on.
If you're a pilot, you can get cash by doing duty missions. A Tier 4 duty mission can bring in upwards of 500K or more for only one or two hours of effort. Much better than grinding destroy missions.
You can also sell resources to crafters--that's something crafters are happy to pay for. It may not make you rich overnight, but it's probably more consistent income than loot whoring. Of course, it will also require a bit more effort on your part, too.
There are plenty of ways to make money in SWG.

Well put.
However, I will agree with the original author that usefulloot drops are too rare.
Wouldnt mind if they increased the drop rate at all. Not to make the looters rich, but to drive the prices down. That would really help the inflation in the economy.
The only thing ppl spend 10+ millions for is different kind of loot. If a +25 CA would sell for around 1 mill I'd say we were on the right track. That way a lot more caual players could afford this stuff so you might actually increase your marked and make more money.

+25 CAs aren't supposed to be common. They're supposed to be one of the rarest items in the game. And as such, they are should be expensive (far more expensive than they have been due to the DJM/DJK exploit). Increasing the drop rate of uber loot would make it cheaper, but it would also make the game ridiculously easy. If you have nothing to work for (such as getting a +25 CA), then you'll get bored and quit.

And if nothing ever drops, you'll get bored and quit.
