I hope you people think this is a good idea...

There should be 2 artisan-made toolsand/or 2 architect-made factoriesthat breakdown items and melt items...

Such as if you loot a CDEF Rifle for example and it is junk (no skill mods no dots just a plain cdef rifle), you could just put it in the BREAKDOWN MACHINE and it would pop out weapon components [ (low stat ones because it is a cdef rifle) ( looted t-21's would pop out high stat ones of course), and a few resources. Armor and clothing would do the same thing, except pop out armor and clothing components and a few resources. Anything elsenot inthat category would usually just pop out resources.

The ITEM MELTER would (you guessed it) just melt items into resources. BUT it would only work on items that have metal in them or other inorganic minerals. IT WILL NOT WORK ON ORGANICS .

Please tell me what you think of this idea.

It would be nice to get back some stuff after your armor goes to crap. Or even weapons. But maybe instead of getting components back, you get some sub par resources only.

Other than that I like the concept. Much better then the Delete option thats for sure.

I do like the idea of getting something out of the trash.
It would add some use to CDEF weapons, of which I still believe they should be loot, just to have a jackpot (DOT) sometime.

Maybe you could also apply the reverse engeneering idea of the Space Loot to these things.
So for instance: You have a CDEF Carbine Dmg 12-45 with a nice speed of 1.2, why not reverse engeneer it to get the Speed for something?

Would give new players the possibility to improve their weapons a bit, so they can have a good game in the beginning. I support your idea AudieLeon.

I would love to breakdown all of the junk I get into resources. I have lots of crap that I have no use for I could melt down.

i think in its raw form it doesn't add much, but adds potential. My thought is that maybe the junk is only useful to an artisan? who has just massive massive quantities of said junk, then after melting can refine into good materials with a factory. that would add another "carreer" choice and a sub game to it.

How about a Junk Dealer/Gardener profession? People come to you with all of their stuff they don't want, give it to the junk dealer who in then turn recycles or breaks down the materials and turns it into other things. Maybe even turn unwanted food type products into a compost heap type of thing.Take recycled food items to a specific area of land and have it cause certain flora to "grow" in better qualities or quantities. Have that profession be the only ones who can turn the various types of garbage into something that can be applied to the land similiear to the hopper in the factory. A fertilizer of sorts. People and cities could have gardens, which would be better than driving around barren cities that need the lawn mowed. Ithorians are supposed to be great Horticulturlists.

This used to be a very popular idea back in Beta, but I believe that the possible exploit of people crafting/melting/crafting/melting etc to get xp was a problem.

Unless you recieved back less metal from an item, than you'd get xp for crafting it in practice mode, then it would end up being a crafting xp exploit. Imagine, for example, melting down houses for the components...

This is a clever suggestion but in terms of the economics of the game its more destructive than constructive..... the pool of harvested resources works much the same way as the money supply a massive supply of resources or components has an adverse effect on the economy. by creating a break down system you are essentially doubling up [depending how this is broken down] the number of times a resource can be crafted with. The resources recycler combiner that has recently been released as a loot item is probably the furthest that this idea should be taken

Cijj,
Reverse engineering of weapons and armor already exists in the game, the reverse engineers of such items are known as smugglers.

I like the idea of melting down weapons and retrieving some resources or the occassional components though.

Yeah If you ever played Neocron, they had a recycler device that turned things like old guns, junk, etc into individual component chemicals and minerals that you could then turn around and use for crafting. This would have been neat but no one did it, it was cheaper and faster to buy the chemicals from AI shops lol, so hardley anyone used the recylcer or took recycler profession.

In SWG the problem with this is haveing the recycler break things down into some sort of usable, heck even grind quality minerals and chemical that you can stack with others. Maybe have a Generic Mineral or Chemical that is produced from recyling items?

have a happy,
