Thread: My first board post / Does your profession make the most money?

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum but it seems like it's got a good base of posters and from browsing the last few [hundred] posts, I found some very insightful and useful threads!

Now, to my question - What makes the most money? Some would say Armorsmith, but lately I notice that with the emergence of cheap 99.5% repair tools, and competition, (on Intrepid, anyway) it seems that the Weaponsmith profession is nipping at the heels of the Chefing profession. As a M WS, I sell over 200 crates of C12 grenades a week. With 9 factories running full time, I can almost manage to keep up with current demands.

If you dont know why C12's are so popular, it's because they're the prefered weapon to grind Force XP, but I think that the real reason that they're such a cashcow is the fact that they're an X use weapon. Chefs make money because food cant be repaired, like armors and weapons. The emergence of a dependancy on such "X use weapons" could easily boost the Weaponsmith profession into the limelight as the new moneymaking profession.

Any thoughts or disagreements? Do you think that Chefs will ever be toppled for mass-money-makers?

Anything that players feel they have to have, get's used up fairly rapidly, and can be made in good quality without looted components is a license to print money. I think StimBs would fall under this, too, if you want to count medic/doctors as crafting professions.

To be honest, though, I'm often surprised at what customers will pay for food. I never really pay much attention to other chefs' prices, I priced mine based on market value of the resources used, production expenses, plus a 75-100% markup (and felt vaguely guilty about marking up that much). I've recently been told I'm one of the cheapest chefs on my server. And while I'm not a 12 point chef with a hoard of uber resources, I don't offer crap, either. +400 / 45m Brandy and Accaragm, Vercupti +1300 / 66 fill or +1000 / 50 fill, +400 / 45m /33 fill Ahrisa, 50% Pikatta Pie, +24 / 3 use Bivoli (occasionally lucking into +25 /3 use), etc.

I think my main problem for the longest time was a lack of advertising. A guild I partner with (although I'm not a member) relocated to Dantooine a couple months ago to a much more active player city. Stuff started flying off my vendor. Even with expanding my operation (and the costs associated with that), I've still been hovering around 5 million credits for the past few weeks.

The "consumable" nature of food is a bit variable, though. A crate of double-buff Vercupti can get used up in a few days. A crate of brandy lasts at least three or four weeks. You could play 24/7 with a constant brandy buff and not use a crate up in under a week. It's still more frequent repeat business than an armorsmith or weaponsmith, though.

I think all professions have "consumable" items to offer, it's just that they're rarely worth it. As a weaponsmith, how many orders for rocket launchers have you had? How many PSGs do you think an armorsmith sells? If these became desirable, I think Chefs could get toppled.

Hopefully not before I make my mad bank, though.

Don't let him fool you! I got visited by his Chilastra thug squad the other day looking for their *cut* of my action.

I cannot see how you can not sell more that what you're stating. I'm a 12-point chef, but that has little to do with the fact thatI cannot keep up with the demand for BE foods. I finallygot aother chef in our town and he's feeling the pressure too. This isn't a bad thing, though, and I'm truly amazed at the variety of foods we never seem to get to make due to our inability to gather enough resources. If you knew anything about my background, that's a harsh assessment of my operations.

A chef could make nothing but brandy, synthsteak and ahrisa and bank 10 million a week minimum, from what I see. I am by no means the best chef on the server, nor the most dedicated and I make that easily.

However, I have built the city traffic over the past year to the point where people see the vendors regularly, and I do think that's the strongest bonus of the entire scenario.

This all depends on what you do inside your profession. I know as an MAS, I can make millions in a single hour of play time. I sold 3 pieces of cutom RIS in one night and banked 13.5 mil. I can make 10 million in a week of normal sales right after a vendor restock.

But.... I also have my slow points were I will only sell about 1 mil worth of armor in a week.

All this will change with the CU. Only the most diversified craftsman are going to really make it. I've been preparing for this over the past couple of months and hope it all works out.

I am a MWS and make great weapons that look good (scopes and barrels and such) but my money maker is Nades, jedi and combat xp grinds are doing this, i cant keep up with sales, when i was master chef i could make 100's of different types of food, but mostly made brandy and vercupti, to this day i dnt knw half the foods i could have made, if i wasnt iterested in making kool looking weapons i couldjust make nades andprosper from it, same as chef who just makes brandy/vercupti, i figure AS would be the same with Comp armor, hopefully that will change with the CURB, but i seem to be saying that alot lately, i still think that hardcore loot hounds still make the most, them and doctors, just need to look at Experimentation tapes to see that, Chef goes for 500k to 1 mil per pont, AS and WS tapes go for 1-2 mil per point, CM about the same and doc can go for plenty more than that, we had a +25 med exp tape going for around 60 million, so i think excluding loot hounds the top earners are Doc followed by WS/AS then chef in that order.

what he said pretty much. I'm one of the more successful Armorsmiths on Farstar and have blown more millions that most will ever see. Diversity is one major key in providing what your customer base will need. appealing to needs of some of the larger guilds can also help. i have made sets of armor special order for entire guilds. this also helps you build loyal repeat customers. Shop location is key as well. My first of 4 shops was south of coronet at -228 -5500...front row. Although i retired from armor i would have to say that you can't go wrong if you make a good product and take care of your customers.

hi there,

well i am not a crafter.. i am resources gatherer... i laughed when people complained bcause of the soloegroup nerf, and i tell you why.

i only have scout harvesting and terain negotiation, on top of tkm, i used to have novice artisan but only for the surveying part.

while i like sologroups, i always thought the pay out to just be a bonus, simply because i only hunt critters with requested meats bones and hides.

i don't make the money some master elite crafters do. but supplying a couple of them at a time really buffed my bank account,

i also like to call them really good bussiness partners since i generally sell them my stuff cheaper then what they are willing to pay.

generally they offer 40cpu for good meats, and i sell it to them for 35 cpu sometimes ussually when i meet them and i need something specific made [like white ubese armor, for some reason really hard to find ]

what does annoy me from time to time is looking for a vendor on the planetary map for lets say armor and all you find is all kinds of variations of composite armor, which i don't use but nothing else even if they are in a remote place

i hope the combat upgrade will change that aswell
