Thread: The desire for acurate economic data

It seems to me that a good portion of you all have taken an interest in observing the micro and macro economic factors that act on this "artificial world" SOE has created.

however, even the most stalwart efforts to gather data are at best inconclusive- we, as players, just dont have the means to gather the economic data we need to get the big picture.

Now, the good news...

Since this is a simulated economic environment, unlike the real world, we dont have to rely on word of mouth from players to gather data. (this would be a sparse selection of dataacross a wide strata of information)

Even more interesting- there are a few people hard at workcollecting this data in order to process it and make it available for everyone.

now the important part: Who out there would be interested in seeing this data?

Im just curious to see if this is a worthy endevor. if you support it, sign, and comment on any perticular area you might like to see data on.

I would love to see it, but there is one problem.

SOE seems to have a policy of not disclosing the server populations for SWG. Without that information, any data they did release would be useless. In fact they are unlikely to release any data because sooner or later you WOULD be able to use that datato estimate server population. (In fact if you look carefully at the old Astromech charts from April 30, 2004, you can make some educated guesses.)

You are right though, I think a lot of players could do some amazing things with that data. I hope that they change policy and release that information sometime in the future.

I for one would love to see figures on how the SWG economy works. I'd bet the SWG economy would make a great topic for a research paper in an econ class...

Also, I'm just curious, why would SOE not want people to know the populations of their servers?

you dont necessarily need actual population data for processing, only the actual purchases that are being made. even so, that data may become available shortly.

i expected a few more signatures on this thread, considering the amount of people who banter incessantly about the state of the game economy.

you hear that elmo?
